Stolen Thorn Raven Tour

Have just discovered this forum so apologies on my behalf

Just in case it ever turns up here am putting the details of a stolen bike.
A black size 487L (small one) with a badly damaged fork and a dent in the down tube.
The bike was fully decked out with tubus racks

Also stolen was a green Exped Gemini II tent in a well used red Ortlieb bag

Stolen in Nepal late June/2013 and may turn up in India and then the UK.
Have reported it to Rohloff and SJS and the Nepalese "police". We searched for the bike and put posters up offering a reward to no avail. Two articles went into the Kathmandu newspapers with no results. We also contacted numerous Nepal and Indian warmshower hosts. We'll see.
After the theft had to go back to Oz due to the fiasco.

Rohloff say they have a %50 chance of getting it back to the rightful owner. It never even got its first oil change.

Being stolen within 20km of India (Nepalganj in Nepal, north of Lucknow) may end up in Delhi and then on to the UK for some parts.

Hi Fred!

Welcome to the Thorn Cycling Forum, though I wish it was under more favorable circumstances.

I am sorry and horrified for your loss, and can only imagine how much worse it was on tour rather than at home -- and to cost you your trip as well.

I do so hope it will be recovered. You're doing all the right things. I'll let your other post on Richie's thread stand in hopes it will attract the attention of those reading about adventures in that part of the world. Good thinking -- the more eyes on the lookout, the better.

The other 'Theft" had caught my eye and my heart stopped as it was the same day, so thought I'd have a go here.

I seriously doubt it'll ever turn up now, but just to make others aware what they could be purchasing. I think it may turn up as scrap, or a hi-tec tandoori rotisserie.

I can only imagine the nasty taste left in your mouths after this incident. It seems you took all appropriate precautions to safeguard your gear but were undone, I suspect by an inside job. An opportunist thief carrying a serious crow bar, catching sight of your bike and have the opportunity to steal it seems a little unlikely. Rather, someone on the inside has provided knowledge and assistance. I bet your Thorn has not gone too far either. At the very least you need a Little Creatures or twelve to take away the taste in your mouths.

In the morning the police found one of the water bottles which made me think it was one person who rode it down the street and fell over. Not an easy thing to ride at the best of times seeing it was such a small bike, also depending what gear it was left in.

The other one was left which made me also believe it was only one person or else both would have gone.

The police continually asked how much it cost, which got on our nerves to no end, but only later thought they themselves may have been in. They may have thought how much to ask for the parts or to us to get it back.

I too believe its within 5 km of the hotel in a mudhut.

Well a month later and am back at work only dreaming of what the remaining ride could've/would've been like.

The bike. Well it's still missing in action and assume it's "Ganesh only knows where".

Am still looking to buy a bike though.

For the new bike pitlocks and one of ABUS's biggest  u-locks may be in order. Not so much worry then. Worth the weight IMO.
