ABUS or AXA ring lock for Nomad MK3 55L
« on: July 30, 2025, 01:28:07 PM »
Hello,

I am thinking of changing my lock from a folding lock to a ring lock. I already use an ABUS ring lock on my electric bicycle and really like it's convenience and the plug in chain gives more effective length than my technically longer folding lock because it doesn't have to go around the frame.

My bicycle is currently not with me - on the ferry from Azerbaijan to Kazakhstan my passport got ripped by someone on the ferry so I'm replacing it and my China visa.

Could anyone with a Nomad MK3 55L measure the width between the seat stays where you would mount a ring lock?

Nik from SJS linked the AXA Immenso XL and said they have fitted that to Nomads, but it retains the key and I'd prefer a non-retaining version so I don't knock it while pedalling.

The ABUS Amparo 4750xl looks to be just as wide and I can see some that are non-retaining, but the slider arm is on the outside. On my ebike, my ring lock is the same and I have bent the arm a bit while pedalling.

That leaves the ABUS Granite 6590M which has a max mounting width of 107mm. This has the benefit of non-retaining and the slider arm is not mounted on the side, so I won't be able to damage it while pedalling.

AXA Immenso XL mounting width 106.3 - 113.3 mm
ABUS PRO AMPARO 4750 X / XL mounting width 97 - 119 mm
ABUS GRANIT XPlus 6950 mounting width 68.5 - 107 mm

Edited because I put the wrong frame size. 55L not 565L

I was hoping someone else would answer so I understood the question!
I can't work it out, it's surely going to depend on wheel, tyre and guard  sizes?  On my Nomad, 61L (But frame size won't make a huge difference) 650B wheels, 50mm tyres, 65mm guards, the seat stays just above the guard are 105mm centre to centre and 90mm inner edge to inner edge.  For my bike, any frame lock that accommodates the tyre and guard, is going to fit fine on the stays.  The measurement that for me is most critical is the drop, I had to lower the guard a couple of mm on my E-bike to get a frame lock to fit, otherwise the bar would scrape the rim.
