We finished off our extended tour with a few lovely small towns in the south of Tuscany (the Maremma region) before taking a train back to Rome. We spent a couple more days exploring the city's sights then stayed a night in Fiumicino before our flight home. We DID miss out on getting to a few places I had hoped we might visit - Montepulciano, Cortone, Perugia, Spoleto, maybe even Norcia, Pian d'Casteluccio and L'Aquila... but that would have been another 1-2 weeks and we were out of time. Another trip for that.
