Giro del Tirreno, Part 2 - Sicily

On our 2013 tour we continued on from the Aeolian Islands (part of Sicily) to the Sicilian mainland. We spent about 3 weeks travelling around 3/4 of the island. It was a land of gracious and charming people, with very friendly treatment on the roads by drivers, lovely warm weather in April & May, and many sites of ancient historical significance.

That church is absolutely stunning. And to think how old it, and the amphitheater is.

The church is the Cathedral at Monreale, near Palermo. It dates from 1267 AD, but the amphitheatre is ancient Greek, and dates to about 300 BC. 2300 years old!
