Roberts Roughstuff
« on: June 22, 2020, 10:59:50 AM »
My wifes Roberts Roughstuff, beautiful condition, custom blue paint and graphics. Pics on request as i'm having problems uploading them.

Spec for Roberts Roughstuff
Columbus Nivacrom designer select gauges for loaded touring.
18” C-T seat tube.
20” approx virtual top tube (steep slope).
FSA Orbit XLII headset.
Fillet brazed to highest standards.
Tubes treated with frame saver from new and every few years so internals are rust free. There are one or two minor chips and I think the same with a couple of minor scratches.
Seatpost is a Kalloy 27.2mm
Seat is a Marin (don’t ask)

Wheels:
Front, son 28 classic dynamo hub, 36 pg spokes to Sun Cr18 rim good cond. Silver. Built by SJSC.
Rear, Shimano LX 36 spoke Dt alpine triple butted on drive side with DT double buttet NDS to Exal ML 21 rim.Built to equalise tensions between the sides and fully stress relieved. Great loaded touring wheel.
Spare spokes for both wheels taped to seat stays.

Transmission:
Shimano XT hollowtech chainset 42/32/22 rings 165 mm cranks with xt octalink BB excellent condition, new middle ring.
XT  rear mech, LX front mech, excellent condition.
KMC 8 speed chain (new) on Shimano 8 speed 11 - 32 cassette, all runs clean and smooth with perfect shifting.
Ultegra 8 speed bar end shifters working perfectly.
Pedals, Bontrager SPD’s good conditions very smooth.

HED 80mm stem 1.1/8” ahead (can be changed if needed). Bars TTT Morph randoneurs 42cm.

Brakes
Shimano mini V’s recently fitted with Salmon red pads, excellent brakes that also work with STI’s if needed. Current levers are short reach Terry levers for small hands,

Tyres 26 x 1.5” Marathon HS308 , the last of my stash of the better lighter marathons. Good condition.

Please note the frame has a little personal touch in that my wife’s first name “Jane” is on the top tube LHS in small letter, actually looks very nicely done by Roberts.

This is a serious long distance touring bike and she has used it as such. I’m a chartered mech engineer and have kept it in excellent condition replacing parts as needed, cables etc. I built the back wheel I am a very experienced wheelbuilder specialising in expedition wheels, the front was purchase complete from John St Cycles.
Add racks and bags and this bike is ready to go anywhere.
In this spec new price (no longer available) would be over £3k.

I am happy to work with prospective buyers to change the spec on the bike to suit, wheels, stem, chainset etc in order to get a good fit and I think it can be set up for anyone between 5' 3" and 5' 8". I am 5' 7" and it's no problem setting it up to suit me.

I would like £1050 for it.

Also what is the actual standover height of the bike,
Where are you based and if necessary would you be happy to post/courier?

Thanks

This bike is now back on the market at a reduced price of £1050. It's a superb long haul tourer , probably one of the best and built by one of the UK's greatest builders Chas Roberts, but too many bikes, so time to go.

Hi Phil.

I'm really interested in this bike! Like above do you have any photos of the bike? If necessary would you be happy to post/courier depending on your location?

Thanks,

Sara

Hi Sara,
Yes I have photo's but seem to be having problems posting them. If you send me a private message with your email address I'll send them to you. I'm based up near Barnard Castle (yes that one) and I'm sure we could sort something out either courier or meet half way whatever suits you.
Thanks
Phil
