Taking a bike on a cruise
« on: January 06, 2021, 07:05:10 AM »
Is it possible to take a bike on a cruise ?

I was looking in the past as going on the QE2 7 day crossing to New York then doing some touring

Covid might be a hindrance to that now

But who knows what might open back up again the future

Anyone know of anyone that has taken a bike on a cruise?

I did have a bit of a google at one point and it sounded like most ships would not allow it

Then I thought about the S+S Bikes that could be stored in a suitcase , but I would prefer not to buy a S+S bike.

Would it be possible to put a normal broken down bike into a couple of suitcases? Not an S+S bike but a normal one. The frame might be a bit too big for a suitcase?

We have taken our bikes on a number of overnight ferries as well as two multi-night ferries in Chile (Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt as well as Puerto Yungay to Punta Arenas).  On most there were no issues here because they were stored on the car decks but on the ferry from Fukuoka (Japan) to Busan (South Korea) the bikes were simply stored in the corridor through which we boarded.  Not sure what it would be like on a cruise ship or a cargo ship.
