Most likely the guy was using a Gebla Rohbox, Anto.
See:
http://www.rohbox.com/
Depending on brand and model, the shifters sometimes need a little modification, but basically it comes down to fitting a new external shift-box to the Rohloff hub. It uses a couple of springs inside to actuate a gear that engages the shift mechanism and allows brifter shifting.
All the best,
Dan.

I've done a number of smaller tours so far this summer, but Playa conditions will likely postpone my actual desert crossings and annual Big Tour till later in summer or possibly early fall.
Hoping!
All the best,
Dan.

Or it might be that top secret joint venture between Campy and Rohloff to develop an IGH racer for the 2020 Tour de France.
