I went for a Hope stainless BB in the end - Ive just removed the cranks to give them a good clean and to inspect the bottom bracket - 4500km - no play in the cranks - or bearings - from the outside look exactly the same as when i installed them - no evidence of dirt and the grease is still a nice colour - Hope rooles OK
not going to mess with what seems to be OK - clean up the drive side properly and stick it back together
