New member and Nomad user.

Hello. I did try and join some time ago but kept on being rejected.....but since you have upgraded the site? it has let me in......

I come to this game a tad late in life (approaching 56 yrs) However early retirement and having been the fat bloke in the van for some LEJOG and C2C trips has inspired me to wander about by cycle.

I picked up a Nomad Mk2 from SJS and since March have been pedaling around the countryside, building up some stamina etc. I aim to cycle around the west coast of Scotland with a friend next month. I have been there several times on motorbikes but have the urge to try it by cycle.

If all goes well and the winter storms don't hit early our route will be Glasgow-Arran-Oban-Fort William-Mallaig-Kyle of Lochalsh and then hug the coast as much as possible and try and get to JOG. Camping all the way. Things may change but the aim is to do 30-40 miles a day.

However you may get a report from the Islay distilleries if it all goes tits up.

I have picked up some good tips on the forum and hope to put them to use.

Welcome Stillold  hope u stick around and share all your cycling   stuff.plenty scottish lads here   so you wont be stuck for a good camping spot.
if you need any tech advice ask dan im crap at that kinda stuff 

anyway enjoy the forum and more so the bike.

Yes, there were registration difficulties due to a mail server problem in the weeks leading up to the site upgrade, but all is well now. Thanks for your persistence and apologies for the difficulties.

I think you'll find the site even more useful since registering, since you can post, use all features, and have full access to the membership for questions and interaction.

I've a Nomad Mk2 myself, and love it dearly. Best of luck on your upcoming tour plans; looking forward to hearing details as the departure date approaches and hopefully we'll see some photos After.

Hi Still, and welcome.  I will up that way from the 2nd September setting out from Glasgow Queen street station and visiting some of the same places. Our paths my cross at some point. Keep your eyes open for a black Sherpa with a 29 & 294 month old on it or pushing it!. This will be my first Major tour too. I set out on my first over night trip today to finish of my training! Hopefully we will have some good weather in September.

Thank you all for the welcome.....AndyE....we may cross paths as we start the same day. If the weather is bad we were thinking of carrying on with the train to cut out the southern part, just to give us some leeway as we haven't really planned any rest days. We will know nearer the time. However if all is well then we take the Sustrans route to Ardrossan on the 2nd, over to Arran and then northwards next day.

Nomad in for a quick service/look over....then a shakedown camping night to check my pyjamas are okay. Fingers crossed for a heatwave.

Congratulations on the new Nomad. I'm 20 months and closing in on 18000km on my Nomad.
I can tell you that you've chosen yourself a very sturdy reliable bike indeed. I've done everything I can do
to thoroughly test mine and all I've managed to do is go through a few chains, replace the tyres and brake blocks once - and I'm
130kg!

Your proposed trip sounds wonderful, it was Scotland and similar routes that motivated me to buy my Nomad. I've spent many an hour checking the Highlands and Scottish islands
on Google Maps and Street View and on Youtube.
