I've been pondering this since the news broke. If the only innovation is the charger (it appears to work with existing batteries), then I'm wondering how it is different from simply zapping a rechargeable battery with a super-capacitor -- which can be awfully hard on overall battery life.

A battery -- that isn't a battery at all, but a micro-scaled graphene supercap -- that takes a quick charge would really be something when coupled with this student's charger. There's hope: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2286714/The-battery-breakthrough-charge-iPhone-SECONDS.html

You can even DIY a pale imitation: http://www.popsci.com/diy/article/2008-02/make-instant-charge-screwdriver

Watching all this with greatest interest...

Best,

Dan.
