Title: Marathon Racer or Marthon Supreme for audaxes?
Post by: andyh on December 10, 2007, 10:44:04 pm
Hi - Marathon Racer or Marathon Supreme for audax?

Anyone have any experience of the puncture protection on the Racer?

The Supreme weighs almost 200g more than the racer (on a road MTB wheel).  Does that affect speed much?

And finally, you might find this tyre test on the German mag "Radtouren" of interest.  The important columns are the last three.

www.radtouren-magazin.com/pdfs/2006_reifentest.pdf

Rollwiderstand is rolling resistance - the Racer scores very high (low is better)
Durchstich is penetration puncture (I think).  The Supreme scores very high (high is better) but the Racer scores better  than most.
Finally, durshschlag means pinch puncture (I think).  The Racer outscores the Supreme!

Anyway, any views?

Or does anyone have any other personal favourites for audaxes?

many thanks

I use 26" Marathon Kevlar (about £15 each from bike+).

100psi and very puncture resistant.

Maybe too heavy for your taste but then again I ride past lost of road boys as they fix punctures during Audaxes

I've just bought 2 700x28 Marathon Kevlars from those nice people at SJSC £8.99 each.  Seems like a bargain.
