Title: Mercury - Hello
Post by: Mart75 on August 21, 2017, 08:33:14 pm
Thought I'd say hello.

Bought a Mercury last month - one of the Team Sky frames - for a reduced price - beautiful bike. Great bike to ride and love the Rolhoff gears - live fairly close to SJS so rides around the levels so far haven't challenged the legs or gears too much. Plan is to do Lands End to John O Groats next year with my partner who's just got a Raven - she's equally pleased with that.

So the paint job design is named Team, and the colour options are white or sky blue?
Wonder if the lawyers at Team Sky were raising their eyebrows at this?

I have just passed 5,000km on mine in two and a bit years.

I really enjoy riding it but could have done without the disc brake on the back.

As a matter of interest Mike, what is your reservation about the rear disc brake?

It is an Avid BB7. It stops the bike but I do most of my braking on the front wheel which is a Shimano V brake which IMHO does a better job than the disc at the back. Thorn has now upgraded to Sprye which is better technolgy but I believe that a disc brake is not necessary for road/touring use.

It will save your rear rim, thought - IME the rear picks up more crud and wears more quickly than the front.
