Thorn Raven Tour
Here is my very low mileage Raven Tour. I bought this new about 3 years ago from Thorn. In that time I have probably ridden no more than 1000km and Danneaux used this bike for his European Tour.
It has been serviced annually and is a very smooth and comfortable bike. Although not immaculate it is in extremely good condition.
Frame Size 580S
Reynolds 531 twin crown fork
Rigida Andre 30 Rims
Shimano Deore V Brakes
Tektro Brake Levers
Tektro cross brake levers
Thorn Crankset
36 x 17 gearing – Will climb anything fully loaded
Schwalbe Marathon Delux 2.0 Tyres
Brooks B17 Saddle
SKS Mudguards
3 x Profile Design Bottle Holders

For a quick sale I am looking for £1000 for this bike. It can be collected from Halifax West Yorkshire or I can ship at cost

Danneaux used this bike for his European Tour.
<nods> It certainly was a cracking good bike in my use. Never missed a shift, never let me down and worked like a champ throughout.
All the best,
Dan.

As Dan has pointed out it is a 587S not a 580S.
I think he knows the bike better than me LOL
Thanks Dan for the correction

Gosh, that is a bargain for someone. I wish it was in my size as I would definitely be intererested. Good luck with the sale.

What size would it be suitable for?
-
Don't know if this will help, Dave, but I am 180cm/71in tall and with average proportions. When I rode it, the bike fit me perfectly when fitted with a long-layback seatpost and 60mm stem paired with long reach/deep drop handlebars. With a different bend drop handlebar, I would have been as comfortable with a longer reach stem.
By "fit perfectly", I mean it matched the sizing of my other bikes to the millimeter when setup as above and resulted in a 45 degree back angle with my hands resting on the brake hoods with elbows slightly bent for shock absorption.
I believe Andy is slightly taller than myself with a longer trunk and arms.
Hope this helps both buyer and seller.
All the best,
Dan.

Thanks for the prompt detailed response

You're welcome, Dave. Put another way, the "hard points" (hands, bottom, feet, leg extension) fit the same as my former 2011 Mk2 size 560S and my 2012 Nomad Mk2 size 590M. The only difference was the reach of the drop handlebars fitted and stem lengt
The big variable between these (^^^) three bikes is the standover clearance. The Nomad's top tube has the greatest slope and provides the most standover clearance for use on cross-country, rough logging roads and similar awful road surfaces. The Sherpa and Andy's Raven Tour had very adequate clearance for any of the less extreme riding and I never "bottomed out" on either bike.
I'm away from my resources and working roadside from my phone at the moment, but there is a Raven Tour brochure with the listed dimensions and standover clearance linked here: http://web.archive.org/web/20070818182847/http://www.thorncycles.co.uk/thornpdf/ThornRavenTourBroHiRes.pdf
Also, Thorn offers a sizing guide here: http://www.sjscycles.com/thornpdf/SetUpHiRes.pdf
Both together should help you get a better feel for whether or not the bike would be a good fit for you.
All the best,
Dan.
