[Now SOLD] Hello all, long time no speak..
Unfortunately after 2 plus years off the bike and various hospital proddings and pokings its looking like I wont be doing anymore bicycle touring.
Even a few hours on a scooter leaves me needing a few days to recover.
So with heavy heart I'm thinking of selling my Nomad.
I don't have a clue how much it would go for though, been off doing other things.
Was wondering if I could get some suggestions of price range from you guys.
Its an inbetweener, not a MK2 nomad but it has a Rohloff. Thorn didn't make many before the Mk2 frame.
Andra supersonic rims ,son hub ,edelux, thrn racks ,brooks, all the usual upgrades.
AND SnS coupling.
black 590m
Im sure theres lots more info but I'm justing looking for a ballpark figure at the moment.
Not desperate to sell, and perhaps if i get struck by lightning I may make a sudden recovery?
Quick photo on the phone.
More close ups to follow
[Topic edit by Dan to show it is now sold]

Hi Richie, I'm sorry to hear that touring days are over :(
I think few photos of your bike would help pricing it.
-
Assuming you are not in a hurry, start high. But I think most people will not buy a used bike unless the discount is at least 25 or 30 percent off of new price so you might want to calculate what your bike would cost if it was a new Mk II for comparison. You can always drop the price later.
If yours has S&S couplers, I suspect that they do not provide very much value for resale, as I suspect a minority of bikers is willing to take a bike apart to save on shipping.
My Mk II is the same size as yours, but unfortunately I do not need another one.
-
I will try and dig out some photos of when it was last all in one piece!
I shipped it back to the UK at the end of my tour and its still in the loft in the box as I haven't been able to ride it.
At the moment Im just exploring possible value and I just don't have the time to put the bike together.
As a ball park figure if its going to be worth less than £1000 I'll probably leave it in the loft for now.
If its more than £2000 I'll find the time to put it together and get it sold.
Anything in between these prices depends on how much time I have.
Using the idea of the cost of a new bike less 20-30% and perhaps a bit less still as its not a MK2 seems like a good starting point.
-
Unfortunately I can only find this one to be going on with.
More updates later.
-
Its out of the loft!
I'm going to put it up for sale for £2000 with all the extras including a spare front wheel with a supersonic rim.
Updates to follow as I dust it off and take off all the protective foam pipes I covered it in to ship it home.
Then I can remind myself exactly what spec it has.
If anyone is interested it wont be ready for a few weeks but you're welcome to drop me a mail or direct message me if you have any questions.
richiescamper@gmail.com
Once I know all the spec and any other useful info i'll put a new post up.
-
Good luck with everything, Richie, that's a big move. I hope it all works out for you, both the sale of the Nomad, and especially your health.
-
Ive just found a list of the spec:
If you want to come and view the bike and you are coming a fair distance, please please ask me if a particular spec is actually on the bike!!!
I'm pretty certain 99% of this spec is on it but better ask me in case a particular thing is a deal breaker.
I wrote the list up before I went off on my tour and I may have changed the odd bit along the way.
Most of the big ticket items are definitely on it though, Rohloff,Edelux,XTRs,Brooks,Shimano Crank + BB,Ergons
This was my checklist before I left on my tour. If it says spare and then ??? then it means I probably have a box full of spare parts somewhere but I havent found them yet!
I also have lots of other bike bits/camping bits that might go up for sale but this is what is included in the price.
Size is a 587L
Im 6ft and its perfect
THORN NOMAD MK1.5! Its a Nomad MK1 but designed for a Rohloff. Not many made before the MK2.
It does not have the strengthened gusset like the MK2 so according to Thorn its best not used with suspension forks. There might be other differences between mine and a MK2 but best to check with Thorn if that's important to you.

If you have the S&S wrench, that should be bundled with it too. I have a Mk II, not interested in your bike.
-
Mick: Thanks for the reminder on that, added to the list.
Macspud: ???? :)
-
Richie, are you sure about the size?
Perhaps there were once different sizes produced but the current Nomad does not exist in a 587 size. Looking at the Mega brochure the closest to what you've listed is a 590L but NONE of the dimensions you are measuring line up with ANY of the Nomad MK2 models. For example, the stand over at top tube, one of the easier to measure dimensions would make this model smaller than the smallest Nomad, the 510M ( Perhaps you are running 25mm tyres? :) ), while the chain stay you list would make this a 620M.
I think it's time for a double check - and put that beer down! ;)
-
Hi Pavel,
Thanks for pointing this out.
I just copied and pasted it.
Perhaps for some reason the info is wrong.
I didn't check it against the bike as its still in bits.
Many Thanks
-
I think the build sheet dimensions differ from the current Mega brochure 'cos it isn't a Mk2?
Best,
Dan.

That would explain it. I missed that detail. I better put down that beer. :)
-
Cheers Dan, Pavel. I'll wait until It's built and check the measurements just in case.
-
It's alive!
Some measurements:
Stand over Height - Ground to top of top tube (Seat post end) 815mm with Schwalbe Mondials fitted
Stand over Height - Ground to top of top tube (Fork end) 860mm with Schwalbe Mondials fitted
Top tube length - 580mm
Steerer has been left uncut since new and measures a whopping 1080mm from ground to headset bolt.
This bike is definitely for the taller Gentleman or Lady
Currently fitted with 175mm crank arms.
Ground clearance with flat pedals 100mm
At present has a zoom layback seat post fitted for even more arm room away from the bars should you want it
The Thorn stem measures 100mm from centre of bar clamp to centre of headset bolt

I will leave this here whilst I prepare an advert.
I will put it up on Gumtree in a few days
If anyone is interested or whats some more information please contact me on..
richiescamper@gmail.com
Please don't send me a direct message as its just a pain to access quickly when you're out and about.
Happy cycling.
-
So I'm nearly ready to advertise the bike.
Apart from ebay and gumtree can anyone recommend any "touring cycling" oriented forums i might put it on
cheers
