Title: Old helmets
Post by: Matt2matt2002 on January 15, 2017, 11:57:47 pm
Apart from my new binoculars I splashed the Xmas cash on a new helmet today.

I've been using my previous one for 3+ years so sun and weather will have taken its toll on the plastic.

Anyone have any thoughts on what to do with old helmets which have probably passed their safe use by date?
Indeed, is there any way to test an old helmet for safety?

Good luck anto! Compulsory helmet laws..govt should spend more money on better cycling infrastructure, that's safer.

I discarded one a year ago that was pretty worn.

Generally I have used my oldest most worn helmets for trips that involve transport where a helmet could get damaged while in transport, I would rather damage an old one than a brand new one.  Last time I bought a new helmet, the one that I had been using got relegated to trips while I use the new one around home on a frequent basis.

i always ware a helmet aji  but like everything else in this world there over priced so a fella like me is going to use the one i have until it falls apart .
i'm just in from a 50 km spin roads are terrible .
man i suffered like a dog the last 10 k m , my feet were screaming at me i think it's the  shoes there not the ones i usually ware on the road bike ,my bad back was in agony .
think i'm going to have to adjust a few things.  i have the new audax set up exactly  the same as my road bike  height reach but there's something wrong somewhere i should not be in this much pain  ?
anto??

Never liked my feet clipped into pedals,  that why I like flat pedals. I know your bike is a different  beast.

Flower pot.

There - I've returned the thread to the subject - don't want to get into the Helmet Question.
I'd rather discuss Britext.
 ;)

Augggggh!  :o

Politics and religion are tame compared to the helmet issue but still polarizing and divisive, so best addressed in another forum.

Bicycles! Ah, bikes. There we go, bikes and weather. There's a common addiction to the former and a common acceptance of the latter.  ;)

All the best,

Dan.

If there were I'd sell the bike, give up on it for all times,  and motor along in my Miata, feeling free.
