Title: Dura Ace downtube shifters, indexed, 10-speed, braze-on
Post by: Far-Oeuf on September 21, 2014, 07:30:00 PM
Hi,

these ones : http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/shimano-dura-ace-sl-7900-10-spd-braze-on-down-tube-shifters-prod20304/ (http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/shimano-dura-ace-sl-7900-10-spd-braze-on-down-tube-shifters-prod20304/)

Turns out they are not my cup of tea, came fitted to the bike (at my request) and have only done about 200km so are in perfect condition.   £60 from SJS (though out of stock, maybe these were their last pair!), £46 from CRC.   £30 for these including postage?

EDIT: rear is index-only, front is friction-only.

cheers,
Doug

I might be interested in these - can both front and back be used in friction mode? I'm thinking of using them on 3 x 9 speed.

Hi,

No, I'm afraid 10-speed rear is index-only.

I think Dura Ace 9-speed rear shifter has a friction mode though.

cheers,

Okay - thanks for clarifying.

you realise that you don't need X-speed shifters if you're running in friction mode?   There are some really beautiful shifters from the 70s/80s (and earlier).   From my limited understanding, Campag are to be avoid due to ghost-shifting issues (they don't have enough friction to counter rear-mech movement when pedalling hard) and Simplex were the creme de la creme (many pro's chucked their sponsors shifters for Simplex).

hope you find some.

Beware though, olde friftion shifters for 5 and 6 speed don't pull quite enough cable for eight speed+ rear mechs... :(

Buy some new 9 speed Dura Ace while you still can.
