I'm looking a front pannier rack for my Audax mk3. The forks have all the fittings but are only rated for light loads. Thorn's own front rack seems a bit ott (they no longer do the light duty one that would be perfect). I've used a barbag extensively before but I've recently decided, after using front panniers on my Claud Butler Dalesman, that I much prefer front panniers to a barbag - so much less effect on the steering, and bars free for lights etc.
I'm presently undecided between two Tubus models, the Tara or Duo. The Tara has a hoop over the wheel, the Duo uses two bars on either side of each fork. Any comments, advice gratefully received!

One thing to note is that the Tubus racks both weigh more than the Thorn one...

that tara rack would be a big no no for me.
i seen a friend on mine crash he had a simular rack when he went head first over the bars the rack pushed the fork right back into frame ,the frame was a total right off the rack caused that damage .
the thorn front racks are excellent seen them on afriends bike well made.
jags.

Don't say that Anto, I've got a Tara for sale if anyone wants it :P (£30 posted!)
I've modified my panniers to fit directly to the fork legs, saved well over a kilo in weight, made them theft resistant and they don't rattle or flap about off road. As a result I've got some ortleib front roller mounting parts available if anyone wants to make an offer ;)
Happy days

Hi,
I have the Tubus Duo racks on my 'other bike' at the moment. I'm a light-touring sort of rider, and it was just a trial. I'd be happy to post them to you to try out if you like. They've only 100 miles on them (Edinburgh to Newcastle). I hadn't really thought about selling them, but you can either post them back after trying them out, or post back some cash? I have no intention of using them again (personal preference, there's nothing wrong with them).
cheers,
Doug
