Title: It's Thorn time again....
Post by: ianshearin on June 06, 2014, 01:10:27 PM
Hey Guys,

Well it's that time now, the Winter is over I sold on my RST and have been keeping my hand in with a cheapy bike from my Local Halfords.
The golf keeps me busy but my mind is now wandering to getting on the bike again and seeing if I can kill myself again....

I am looking at a John o Groats to Lands end run going B&B all the way and looking for about 50-80 miles a day, I might try a 24 hour run some time during the run and would like to do a night ride as well.

Obviously after my experience with Thorn and the RST I can not consider anything other than a Thorn bike.

My budget is limited though so although the Mercury would be the ideal bike it's a little outside my budget, at least for now.

I want a flat bar this time and looked at the Audax bikes but they are all drops, so my question to you guys is what do you think my best option is.

My thoughts looking at the Thorn models is a CT4 with the Fork option 2 and 28 tyres, that looks around £1500.

Cant see anything else that might suit, any ideas?

BTW keeping an eye on Dan on facebook, he is a legend of touring.....

Ian

How's it going Ian,
well i'de go for the sherpa with carbon forks light rack on the rear small barbag.
the sherpa with good set light wheels and set of slicks or supreams will give you a super ride guaranteed.
good luck with it hope you get sorted.

Hi Ian
I'm in Aberdeen so probably off your route but would be pleased to put you up for a night if it helps you on your way.

Thanks, that'll be Daniel Danneaux then, will it? That's the only name coming up for me. Just want to follow his progress. Some people use different handles on various sites.

I thought that somebody said that they were following his progress on F.B. My mistake if that is incorrect. He does seem to be online though.

Thanks for the offer of a Bed Matt, actually, Aberdeen is on my route, im staying with a friend at Elgin and then the next leg will be to Aberdeen....
Just not sure when the trip will take place, looking like next Spring by the time I have sorted some stuff out and got the bike etc.

Dan is having a hard time at the minute with losing his wallet and credit cards, he is on the case of course but as we all know losing your finances in a foreign place can be daunting.

Good news, Ian! The two replacement credit cards arrived this afternoon. Now,  I just need the two prepaid user - loadable debit cards and I'll be all set to leave and continue my journey.

Whew.

Gettin' there.

If everything went according to plan, it wouldn't be an Adventure!

Real excited to hear of your own upcoming tour, Ian
May it all go smoothly for you.

All the best,

Dan. (...who is in a good hotel, but hasn't been able to leave!)
