A few things to figure out and fix but...here she is! :) A certain cyclist of considerable renown did a double take of her yesterday.

CLASS............... ;)

Ian!
Wow! All congratulations your way on a wonderful new ride.
She's *gorgeous*! Please favor us with details and more pics in-between rides with your terrific and very beautiful new companion.
Does she have a name? Really, really pleased for you!
All the best,
Dan.

That bike looks in fantastic condition. I think it is the same era as mine with the same head badge. The paint work on yours looks mint. Mine has crazed like a 200 year old masterpiece.
Will be interesting to hear how you get on with it. I find it a very flexible bike being able to carry great loads but also feels fairly sprightly.
All the best
Andy

Hi Ian,
A lovely looking bike, and surely too good not to be a keeper.

Himself/Herself - not sure yet!
Once I get the grips just right they'll be great; the process is a little long though. Getting the 'horns' at the best angle whilst making sure the flat part of the grips are right is a deft balancing act.
The cantis are a pain in the proverbial; fine tuning the pad positions really is a case of trial and error - and a very good advert for V brakes.
The kick stand is rather useful although aesthetically its rather unrewarding! Next it'll be a basket on the front with a chihuahua in it!

Beauty :)

You can tell much about the nous* of a cyclist by where he sets his handlebars. Ian is, as Jags says, a "class" cyclist! That really looks like a serious tourer's bike, nothing just for show, which of course is a statement in itself.
* Pronounced "nows" in Noo Awlins, and "nooh" by those with more culture; it means both know-how and, more indefinably, capability.

I've Avid Shorty's...no bother with getting them setup but yours seem different.
I did have to change to Salmon Koolstop for better performance in rain.
Are yours the non-threaded block canti type?

I've got 'em sorted now. I had to 'toe' them in apparently. Previously they were squealing like the proverbial pig! I had Shimano Deore XT M70R brake cartridge insert for rims ( with grub screw
not pin) on but as they are now obsolete I got these: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/clarks-v-brake-blocks-%28black%29-and-extra-pads-%28red%29-cp522-prod22571/
They work pretty well and there is a spare set of pads included.
Happy days :)
I've been trying that map my ride app out too and its terribly addictive, well if you remember to restart it after pausing for your banana break it is!

Brake squeal does work about 110* times better than a cycle bell though :D
*like all statistics this is made up.
-
LOL
When my brake squeal attracted the interest of seemingly amorous bovines I knew it was time to fix them!

You have weird cows over there ;D
