Thorn Nomad Mk1 for sale. Rohloff 14 speed hub gears and S&S couplings for easy packing. Frame is dark green and size is 497L .

Lovely bike in excellent condition apart from a dent in the top tube - none structural with no sharp edges. Decal damaged but the paint is all intact. The ride is tip-top. Gears, brakes all work fine, chain not stretched, bottom bracket and headset as they should be.

Fitted with ceramic rims front and rear with minimal wear. Front wheel has an XT hub. 1.95 Schwalbe Marathon XR folding tyres front and rear. (I can fit some 1.5 Schwalbe Marathon Plus if preferred.)
XT vee brakes, Tektro levers.
Thorn accessory bar.
Bullhorn bars fitted along with 120mm stem to accommodate taller riders. I'm 6ft 2in and it suits me fine. (I prefer smaller frames for the standover height) . However, this is probably ideally suited to someone around 5ft 9/10. I can also fit trekking bars with XT brake levers and an adjustable stem, if someone smaller is interested. Happy to look at whichever option suits.

Please note, I've got the Rohloff hub and rear wheel advertised separately. If this sells first, the bike will be withdrawn from sale.
Brooks saddle not included but I can fit a 'comfort' saddle for the sale. Also, the bike is currently fitted with folding pedals. These will be replaced with standard flat pedals.
Asking price is £1150 ono. Collection from Brighton only.

Cracking looking bike at a very reasonable price.
I would not be over concerned about the top tube damage. These frames are designed for it

Looking at the brochure for Nomad mk2 don't see your frame size? I am 5'10” and looking for Relaxed/very relaxed position. Do you think your frame meet this requirement. Thank you for your time. JB

Thanks for your interest in the Thorn. It's actually a Nomad MK1 not 2 which is why you wouldn't have found the size listing. Regarding the ride, I've got it set up for my height which is 6ft 2in. The frame isn't designed with my height in mind at all, but since the bike has an uncut steerer and long seatpost, there's room for adaptation. I took the bike on some trails today and feel that the current bars are unsuited to such terrain, so I'll change them tomorrow for some trekking bars. I'll take a pic and post it when it's done. The trekking bars will give a more relaxed ride, which would make it more suited to what you're looking for. As to whether it's the perfect bike for you, I can't say. Preferences vary, so the best way to find out is to try it. The bike is in Brighton and if you want to see it that would be fine. Cheers.

A bike like that, you should keep, so very versatile.

Reading between the lines, perhaps this is another instance where a change in position makes all the difference in the world. The new handlebars are surely a better fit to the saddle height for a tall rider.
It is a lovely bike, and I can surely understand why the seller would wish to keep it if it could be made workable.

i know in my case been out of work its always lack of money sell things for fast cash, but it never works out quiet like that.theres always this ginormass big hole waiting to swallow up every feckin penny you manage to get.sell nothing just not worth it.

Absolutely. It's the S&S couplings that give it the edge over a standard frame. I've just come back from a ride to The Gambia (www.thespokeandwords.wordpress.com (http://www.thespokeandwords.wordpress.com)) and we caught the bus and hitch-hiked part of the route. I loved the variety and it gave me an appetite for multi-modal overlanding. An expedition touring bike that folds/splits is the ultimate vehicle for this kind of travel.

Also true. Taking the bike off-road, I realised the bullhorns were limited in their use, even though I loved the look of them. The trekking bars, though aesthetically suspect, are wide and give the bike greater stability.

Yep, that was part of the driver for selling. I've just started back at work today, so that's taken the heat off a bit financially, but lack of cash certainly contributed to me wanting to sell. I've done it before and it's not good policy. There are certain bikes that I've always regretted moving on.
Having said all of the above, the frame is small for me. The reach is fine and I can ride all day on it, but I'll be on the lookout for a larger S&S frame, preferably on a Nomad. The frame build is superb.

£1150 and 10 bottles of my home made Cyser (cider + honey).
I was going to take it to Thorn have the Rolhoff upgraded to disc. Front changed to suspension with disc and dynamo. Now my life has been ruined by somebody giving you a job! Please let me know the name of the firm so I can burn there office down!!!!

Also, the current front forks don't have disc brake mounts.
I'd have thought you'd be better off buying something like this and having the S&S added afterwards if you need it to split... http://www.thorncycles.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=8209.0 (http://www.thorncycles.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=8209.0). I think it would be a cheaper option. Not sure why you'd want to convert to disc though? The vee brakes are excellent and ceramic rims are very resistant to wear.

Already sorted with Thorn offered to do all work. Could have had non suspension forks if wanted. My 3 previous post should not be taken seriously. JB

My requirements are discs front and rear (suspension front acceptable). Touring bike ie will take full mud guards and rear front rack. Could could possibly live with rim brakes but an old bike I had disc front and rim back and I am on 5th rear wheel. So prefer disc. Must be disc rear as I would not be happy have to pay for a Rolhoff equipped wheel to be replaced. JB

I've tried various options with this bike, but I have to accept that it's just too small for me, so I'm going to move some parts to my folding bike and sell the frame/forks and some other bits once I've done the transferring.

JB, if brakes wear out a rim by thinning the sidewalls, the hub can be reused by replacing only the rim. The labor cost would be no different than replacing the rim on a bike with derailleur drivetrain.
A rim like the Rigida Andra has some pretty thick sidewalls, or you could go with the Rigida Andra CSS, a carbide-coated rim that is extremely wear-resistant and would provide long rim life without need for a rear disc.
