Well, jags, depends on what you want it for. For touring, for travel, for road and component tests and reviews, or a general-purpose?

A friend once asked me something similar about car magazines, and I gave a long discourse in answer. Turned out he wanted it to swat an insect. "Best" can mean a lot of different things!  :D

Dying with curiosity here.

All the best,

Dan.

I think it could be a great idea to list those magazine's we know have an inkling of touring content in them.
I don't know that many myself.

The CTC magazine called  "Cycle" is supposed to be all about touring but the content is a little wider these days.
I like "Bicycle Quarterly" from the States. Sometimes some very good touring articles in it.

These are the only two I read on a regular basis.

Any others out there ?

Steve

The Ride Journal - beautiful to look at and frequently has articles about the essence of touring (as opposed to join-the-dots travelogues). http://www.theridejournal.com/ (http://www.theridejournal.com/)

Ride On magazine (Australia). https://www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/general/join-in/129/ (https://www.bicyclenetwork.com.au/general/join-in/129/)

Adventure Cyclist. http://www.adventurecycling.org/adventure-cyclist/ (http://www.adventurecycling.org/adventure-cyclist/)

Interesting that we have quite a few online references, not so many printed favourites ...  To add to those mentioned (I also enjoy Bicycle Quarterly, from Seattle), one magazine I occasionally buy, Jags, is Bicycle Times, out of Philadelphia in the U.S.  Not about touring, but off-beat and upbeat, about and for people who use their bikes for daily transport.  For touring, I'd opt for crazyguyonabike.com -- covers the horizon, rarely dull, and there are some excellent writers who contribute.  Not in print, obviously -- but maybe you can find a computer at your workplace that you can fire up & settle down with a nice cup of tea?

Best paper magazine at the moment in my opinion is Cyclist (http://cyclistmag.co.uk/), it's not a touring focused mag, mostly road and sportive, but has a lot of good quality, detailed, articles on all aspects. Each issue usually has a good technology article, covering some aspect of bike manufacture (tubing, etc.), a couple of good recommended foreign rides, a famous sportive report, etc. Some great photography too.
Not cheap though at £5 an issue.

Jags,
Best to use the library for reading material and save all your money for that new frame. ;-)
