Title: Interesting shot
Post by: Pavel on August 12, 2013, 03:31:19 PM
I just thought I'd share this photo that I came across.  Interesting to see how far we have/have not come.  :)

Hi Pavel!

Wow! What a phenomenally high-resolution photo. Enlarged, I'm going to spend a lot of time "exploring" this shop and taking a look-see.

What a treat; thanks so much for sharing it.

Best,

Dan.

It won't appear readily on some slower connections; it is big, and takes awhile to download even as an html tag.

You can view the lower-resolution photo here: http://www.shorpy.com/node/15822
Full-size, high-resolution direct link here: http://www.shorpy.com/node/15822?size=_original#caption

dang .. I can't see the shot neither now ... here is the link.  It sure was a pleasure for me to slowly look over all the details - like the brakes for example.  One day, I imagine, some of those Thorn brochures may look much like that.  Timeless beauty.  :)

I especially liked the *two* bell and headlight displays. The saddles look so familiar and similar to our present-day Brooks'. Oh! And the racer in the photo on the left -- very current-looking drop handlebars and frame angles not too far off those of more recent touring bikes.

Good stuff, Pavel.

Best,

Dan.

Bicycle sales staff use to wear ties and vests?

I like those seatposts that allow better fore and aft seat adjustment than they do today.

When I worked in a bike shop years ago, I was the only one that could figure out how to work with rod brakes, that meant that I did all the work on Raleigh DL-1s.  Fortunately we only sold a few of them.

.... and with good timing ... another edition of bike life of the past :)  ... this time the sort with co-pilots.

My! You're sure finding some good ones, Pavel! For most of us, the photo will exceed the size of the monitor, so don't forget to scroll around in the picture to see everything. There's a tandem with stoker-steering on the right side that's surely worth a look. The double-diamond tandem on the left is a looker as well....

These are really fun, Pavel; thanks!

Best,

Dan.
