This was my father’s hardly used Thorn, that he bought in 2011, intending to tour Europe. Sadly he died a few months later before he managed to make it across the channel. We think he did less than 100 miles on it and it has not been used since.
The frame size is 565L (virtual seat tube length). It’s too small for me, but it is a wonderful touring bike. It is a bright yellow 969 steel frame with Thorn steel forks and S&S couplings for easy transport and stowage. With Thorn pannier racks front and rear
Gearing is a Rohloff Speedhub, 14 speed hub gear at the rear and it has a Schmidt SON 28 Dynamo hub on the front, powering a Scmidt Edelux high power headlight.
The bike cost over £2,800 when he bought it and is hardly used. The full spec is below and I would be happy to answer any questions.
Frame: Thorn Raven Nomad Mk 2 S&S – Thorn 969 Co Mo Steel
Fork: Thorn rigid steel
Gears; Rohloff 500/14 - 14 speed hub gear
Brakes: Shimano Deore M590 v brakes
Chainset: Thorn 170mm
Front hub: Schmidt SON 28 Dynamo hub
Rims: Rigida Andra 30 26” 32 hole
Tyres: Panaracer Pasela Tourguard 26x 1.75
Seat post:Suspension seatpost
Saddle:Lookin Xsenium
Pedals:SPD pedals (not shown in photographs, but will be included)
I am looking for £1,950 ono. I am based in Bristol, more photos available via email if required.
Many thanks to everyone for your kind messages. I have updated the price as I think got it wrong before and I'm sorry for any confusion.

My! That's a lovely example, and very nicely photographed by you.
I have a feeling it won't be too long before it finds a happy home!
I'm very sorry for your loss and realize putting such things up for sale cannot be easy, as they bring back happy memories and also loss; my condolences.
Best,
Dan.

Hi there, would be keen for a contact to discus,
Thanks Andrew

That sure looks like a brand new and beautiful bike! What a sad story that causes it to appear here. I hope these projects, Tom, help to connect you to community and resources so you can celebrate more fully your father's accomplishments and dreams.

Hi Tom
Is the Thorn still available?
And is the rear hub the disc compatible version?
I'm planning to cycle through Europe myself next year so perhaps your dad's bike may get to do the journey he planned for it. I would like to come and see it if possible.
Would you be able to send me a message with some contact details to arrange a day/time that would be convenient - this weekend perhaps?
Thanks,
Drew

Sorry to hear of your fathers death.
I would be grateful if you could advise me wether his bike is stillfor sale. I could come over to view/buy on Sunday.
Regards, Larry.

Just to say I went along to try the bike today and it is no exaggeration to report that it really is 'as new'. It would be carrying me back to Herefordshire now if it had not been a smidgen too small for me! Really genuine seller, under sad circumstances to boot.

Thanks for the report, Andrew; bound to set potential buyers' minds at ease.
I surely wish circumstances were different for the seller, Tom; truly a bittersweet moment.
Perhaps one consolation that will ease Tom's mind is the genuine affection people have for their Thorns; it will surely be treasured, and the thought of it in use is a nice and ongoing tribute.
All the best,
Dan.

Is this bike still for sale? If so would it be possible to see it next weekend?
Thanks, Barry

This is just a quick note to apologise for the radio silence. I was away for a long weekend celebrating my birthday. Today was my first day back, and I'm still in the office!
The bike is still for sale, owing to some confusion over sizing. As I read it, the current information on the Thorn Website describes a Nomad Mk2 565L as the ideal size for men of average height 5'6" - 5'10" 1675mm to 1780mm. I assume that the sizing would apply equally to a 2011 model such as this one.
The URL is http://www.sjscycles.com/thornpdf/ThornRavenNomadBroLoRes.pdf if that helps.
Thanks again to everyone for their kind words.

I'm 5'11" and ride a 565L Nomad MkII - seems to work fine. I gave Thorn my dimensions and they picked the frame. Probably I have relatively short legs and long torso but not anything freakish I don't think!
-
Tom,
I'm still interested in buying your bike. Can you send me an e-mail if it suits you to arrange a visit to look at the bike this weekend. Thanks Barry

Just an additional data point to echo Jim's above...
In speaking with Andy Blance when spec'ing my Nomad Mk2...I could have fit a 565M or 590M ("M" or Medium for my preferred drop handlebars; otherwise it would have been an "L" Long) and I'm the same 5'11"/180cm as Jim.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Dan.

I ride a 587L Raven with butterfly bars.
I know the frame is on the big size for me at 5' 11" but it is the most comfortable fit I have ever had on a bike.
This sizing lark is very strange. One thing for sure, whoever you are , there is a bike out there waiting for you.
