I'm afraid Jags I think that is about the going price. It is quite a recent tyre and there does not seem to be any going on the cheap. A cheaper alternative would be the Schwalbe Kojak is a 26*2.0 which would give you the speed and the comfort but I dont think you would get the same longevity nor puncture resistance.
The other extreme of the spectrum at a very good price would be some old stock Marathon XR tyres as here:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SCHWALBE-MARATHON-XR-26-X-2-00-WIRE-BEAD-MTB-ATB-EXPEDITION-TYRE-TUBE-OPTIONS-/130828621402?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&var=&hash=item1e75fe565a
All the pluses except for a trade off in speed.

andy what about the supreams on bikediscount can you see a difference in quality .
certainly a lot less money. ;)
-
I cant see any difference. The 2" version is 36euro but still a lot less than I have seen elsewhere

Hi jags,
Just scanning the threads from far, far to the south...
Did you ever find the compression stuff bags you were looking for? I just saw that MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op) is selling a bunch on clearance, prices between Cdn$10 & $24, down about 25-33%. Click the "Clearance" link at www.mec.ca
You can order online by mail--MEC is pretty quick, but I don't know what the postage wd be. Assume they'll have that info on the order system. (Won't weigh very much, anyway!)
Hope this is useful,
John

I would be interested in your finding with these supremes, am i rgiht in thinking you currently run 1.75" supremes i would be interested if you notice them being slow. I find my sherpa with 2" duremes fairly sluggish ( yet to play with pressures) am looking at getting a spare set of supremes but am not sure in which size.
-
find them great i run them at max pressure 70lb psi ,yes as good as a slick great on wet roads good grip .only gripe i would have the side walls are thin so not much good on rough stuff .bikediscound is very cheap for these tyres twice the price with chainreaction well near enough.
i use them all the time on the sherpa day rides and loaded touring never a problem. ;)
-
out of interest jags - why are you now moving up to 26x2.0s ?
-
no i'm not 26x1.60 if i could go any narrower i would but they don't make them that small ;D ;D

Ah, Spring! I just took off my Marathon Winter tires and put on the wire bead 50 mm Supremes that my Nomad originally came with. My standard short little ride that took me an 60 minutes last week took me 55 minutes today after the switch. I'll take the 10%, thanks!

nice one jim guess we could do with the winter tyres over here. :o
my friend paul uses schwalble kojacks on his raven tour he loves them and carrying just rear panniers and barbag touring france and ireland he never punctured as yet nice going on a set of slicks. ;)
