Title: Tyres for a large rider?
Post by: Steve137 on May 31, 2005, 07:56:28 AM
Can anyone suggest a suitable tyre for me? I'm fairly heavy -about 17 1/2 stone (not all lard I hasten to add) and am finding that the 700 X 25 Hutchinson Excels I currently ride on are not really up to the job.  I'm looking for something with a stiffer sidewall, available in the same size (I'm limited by what will fit under my mudgards) and will take a higher pressure (up to 140 or 160 psi)......can anybody suggest a tyre that fits these requirements please?

I've just returned from an end-to-end of France where, with the extra load of panniers, my tyres were really overwhelmed.  The only upside is that I lost 1/2 a stone as a result of the trip!

I don't know of any off hand but panracer pansela are listed at 25mm and tandem use.
You could ask your Lbs to try others.
I use gator skins in 28mm and these are smaller than conti top touring 28's but are bigger than 25's.
