Title: Change chain and sprocket or not?
Post by: gearoidmuar on September 14, 2012, 10:28:45 AM
Am going touring tomorrow for 360 miles or so in Brittany.

Just measured my chain. It's stretched 1/8 exactly in 12 inches.
The sprocket is on its second side, first chain for that.

Two questions.
If I just change the chain without chainging the sprocket, is it likely to skip?
Will what I have last 360 more miles?

Thanks.

I would just leave well alone and enjoy the tour. Renew/replace after the tour when you have time to explore the possibilities.

If you have a chain tightener then you may get a chain skip with just a new chain.

I have seen a new chain skipping until the chainring was renewed on a derailleur bike.
Julian.

Yeah, I'll leave alone but will bring spare sprocket and the sprocket remover..
