Hi
I'm a little confused over this issue.
How long does the Rohloff last e.g. does it completely wear out eventually & need replacing (not cheap !) ?
Or can it be serviced & last a lifetime ? If so which components wear out & would I have to send the Rohloff unit away ?
thanks

"No-one knows yet, they've not been making them long enough."
...Is the usual answer.

OK - thanks. So they are not aware of any of the mechs they've sold wearing out ?
So I should just carry out the regular oil change & replace cable as/when required - and it might last a life time ... ?
What about the ext. box - can I just leave that alone ?

What happens when the Rohloff wears out?
Your Great Grandkids buy another one !

has it got a lifetime warranty . ;)

has it got a lifetime warranty
Looks like a two year warranty, from what I see.
-
that sounds bad, i'm still a shimano van simple to use and easy to replace.
-
Why is that bad? its twice as long as Shimano kit gets.
Also, although the warranty card says 2 years, I understand most out of warranty repairs are provided FOC.
-
Well I sent mine back to rohloff when it was 5 years old and they stripped it and recalibrated it and sent it back all at no cost I think they want to protect the "legend" of rohloff being the best so much that they will do almost anything to preserve their good name.

Just out of interest, was that for a particular fault, or did you just want it serviced?

I think it's a mild form of Trolling... Rohloffs have good points and bad points like everything else. One thing they are good at, is lasting a very long time.

yeah your right i've heard the rohloff is an excellent hub but i just would rather have the shimano gears ,each to there own i suppose.

There is an old saying - 'The only people who don't like Rohloffs are the people who don't own them!'
I've got two; one on a 6 year old Catalyst that goes on and on, and one on a new RST ;D

I think jags is confusing Shimano with derailleurs. Shimano make hub gears as well and other companies make derailleurs so to say you prefer Shimano to a Rohlhoff Speedhub is a meaningless statement.
From the sound of it he has never ridden a bike with modern hub gears so how he can't possibly know what he prefers?
