Thought I would show my face and say hello. I've been considering a Rohloff equipped bike for some time now and went for the plunge a couple of months ago. My RST arrived last week and I've just been tweaking the set up & position and slowly breaking in the saddle over the weekend 8). here it is:

I've dropped the bars down a few spacers and will eventually cut down the steerer tube when I'm happy with it. I'll probably take the bars in by 1-1.5 cm each side to bring the bar ends in a little and I think I'll will eventually fit some bar ends inside the brakes for a more Aero position.
I've been riding a Look 585 for the last few years, but I'm selling it after my 1st experience on this. Clocked 40 miles yesterday and 30 today around the lanes in Suffolk and it's just awesome. My average speed has dropped to between 15 and 16 MPH which is only a few MPH slower than when I was riding my road bike :)
I never felt I could slow down on the Road Bike without feeling guilty, but today I got to see the country side !
I can't wait to get the seat broken in ... ;)

Wow, that's a super-clean setup, and a lovely colour too. Congratulations. -- Andre Jute

Thanks Hobbes,
I'm working on the principle that overtaking road bikes will be more fun and if they overtake me I have an excuse and if I break 30 minutes on my local 10 I'm getting fitter ;)
-
tt: lovely looking bike, hope it gives you many years of fun. My RST has given me vast amounts of enjoyment.
I am also from Suffolk so I will look out for you when riding, I've never seen another raven here yet....

Tks Paulson,
I'll keep me eyes open.... I'm normally anywhere around the Bury, Lavenham, Long Melford & Bures B roads & it's not as flat as people think :P....

Hi,
Please can someone tell me the make and model of the rear rack on this bike? I have a Thorn expedition rack on my Club Tour but want a light rack on my new RST.
Best,
John.

TT that's a super looking bike perfection .i also got rid of my look road bike really class bike but sooner ride my thorn to be honest.
best of luck with it hope you always keep it looking as good ;)
-
looks remarkably like a Tubus Vega.
Nice looking bike BTW - reminds me of when my RST was shiny and new.

+1 Tubus Vega
Mine went rusty around the lower welds very quickly despite light use and careful installation. :-[ Very good apart from that.
Happy shopping

...And one of the prettiest racks around, in my opinion, if you don't require greater load capacity. It just looks "right" to me, and nicely compliments the lines of nearly any bike it is mounted to.
Best,
Dan. (...who thinks looks count for something as well)

Great looking bike. Fantastic colour.
May I ask?
Pedals?
Speedo?
Logo on top cross bar?
Will,you be adding lights?

Looks lovely, a bike to give you an excuse to go slow? ;D
I can recommend a dyno hub if this a commuting beastie.

Ah my motivation just keeps going higher and higher every time someone posts pics of there new machine.

Ah, Ian...your day is coming soon, I know! Can't wait till one is in your hands and being ridden by you.
We've all been there!

Dan. (...who thinks the waiting sweetens the getting)

Hi there, everybody correct about the carrier - Tubus Vega it is.
Pedals : Speedplay Zero's but now changed to Speedplay Frogs (for ease of walking + Retaining float)
Logo : Standard 'Raven Sports Tour'

Since these photos' I have now changed the Mudguards to SKS Bluemels Olympics that fit the Kojaks far better (42 mm arched profile ) - No one would probably notice apart from me.... Took bloody ages to fit as I followed Thorns instructions to the T, but they do look really good - will post when I have a minute.

I like the bar-ends. Do you find you use these much ?
-
Yes, quite a bit - good in a head wind or just when you want to cane it and it just makes a change if nothing else. I used to have a syntace c2 clip on my Hewitt Audax and that was just perfect for long distances, but these do the job just fine.
-
What are your opinion of the Kojaks? They seem to get good reviews on the www but it would be nice for some first hand experience.
It was one of the options I was looking at in making a fast(ish) audax bike out of a xtc.

Andy,
The best I have ever ridden on IMO.
These are 1.35 " slicks pumped to 4.5 bar but they can go to 6.5 bar if your rims can take it.
V. Light, V.comfortable, V. Fast - I would argue they feel as quick as skinny road tires, but with a little more padding. They are even as light as some much smaller road tires.
I rode the wettest 80 miles I have ever done last year (6 hours in constant downpour) and they always felt planted and tracked.
1000 + road miles with just two punctures ! ( Damn it! I should not have said that! There goes the next day out!) , cant comment on tracks or off road, but I don't think they are really intended for that use for any period.
I personally will not change these now and have even fitted the bike with narrower mudguards !
Let me know if you decide to do it.

Been a while since my last post and done a few mods - A new Saddle - Cobb Jof 55 which is excellent, some Aero bars (because I missed them). I was too too damn windy and cold to get out today so it was afternoon in the conservatory which my wife is so very happy about.

Aw, what a marvelous "go-fast" RST, and a great place to ride it virtually if not on the roads! Cover, nice glassed-in view, and the telly not far away to help the trainer miles go by.
Altogether a lovely scene and a lovely bike. It is looking so very nice; all good wishes for many happy rides together in this, its latest configuration.
Best,
Dan.

I meant IT was too damn windy rather than I was too damn windy :)

I figured...
:D
All the best,
Dan.
