While changing my Thorn Audax rear tyre I noticed a crack in the rim. Not unusual I thought after reading about the hard anodised finish cracking, but on closer inspection I see it's cracked all the way through. Checked the front rim and it's the same... midway between 2 spokes. I assume I replace immediately. I ride approx 90 miles a week on occasional rough ground and don't exceed 35mph.

Any suggestions on replacements ?

I must say, that crack looks so neat - are you sure it isn't just a seam from manufacturing? Otherwise - mighty frightening!

It is odd that the crack is midway between 2 spokes and the Mavic label is over the crack. I don't know how these rims are manufactured, but I would assume if it was an extrusion that they would at least join the ends together. As you say, it's very neat, but the crack is definitely all the way through on both rims. Anyone else got MA40's they can take a close look at ?

Pretty sure that's just the rim joint, perfectly normal.

If this "crack" is on the opposite side to the valve hole then it is just the rim joint which is fine.
