After 4 years, I have finally taken some pics of my exp. It didn't get cleaned first... so apologies for it's grubby state! I'm off on hols tomorrow... so my replies might be delayed by a week or so.

Nice set Neil, I've not seen the blue billiard cue paint job before, looks good.
Is that an led light at the back of the rear rack, if so, what kind?

Looks like a Supernova E3 to me, though hadn't seen this in black before!

It is indeed an E3... I can't remember the exact colour (the photo may make it look darker than it is)... it's so rare that I look at it. I will check next time I get the bike out. A great light (and indeed set of lights with the front light) - thanks to JulK for the recommendation. I currently have a 15 mile commute on very busy roads - once the days get shorter, I will supplement the E3 tail lightwith a big Cateye or something... just for peace of mind.
The rear mudguard (whilst we're at that end of the bike!)... is a bit squashed having being shunted by a car a few weeks back.... grrrr. No damage to me, nor major damage to the bike... it was a very low speed incident at a roundabout.

Neil, nice bike. It's always good to see a well-used Thorn.

I'd agree the E3 set is literally brilliant - was interested to see how you fixed the rear light. I couldn't find anything obvious in bike shops, so took my bike to a garage and had a hole drilled into the rear plate of the rear rack!

JulK recommended these... http://www.westfieldfasteners.co.uk/A2_PClip_RbbrLnd.html
Very tidy and very sturdy. The company I used to use was Stagonset, who have been renamed/replaced by Westfield Fasteners. I have not used the new company yet, but Stagonset always provided great service and speedy delivery. Additionally the photography of the items on their website was (and is) excellent... makes a big difference when buying components... to me at least :)

Supernova do a bracket specific for the E3 tail light

I was told by Supernova that this will fit on a Tubus rack.

I found that the wire sticking out of the E3 tail light got in the way when fixing the light on a rack. Even using the spacer kit still leaves a very tight bend in the wire to avoid cutting/drilling the rack mounting point and leaves the light sticking further out and vulnerable.
I use the Thorn rear rack and found the p-clips made a very satisfactory fastening with no cutting or drilling holes required. I just used the rear bar rather than the light plate (saves weight as well).
The E3 tail light and wiring are held under the rear bar, out of the way of any rack top load and easily rotated down a bit if you are riding in a group and might dazzle people riding just behind you.

I want to try and embed one of the photos straight in the post...
Here's the html code flickr gives you...
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/capture_release/5793808310/" title="CR-9.jpg by Capture_Release, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2755/5793808310_cb7015ed03.jpg" width="334" height="500" alt="CR-9.jpg"></a>
Here it is within the "img" whatsits you get when you press the "insert image" button above...

Now I wonder if either will work...
Nope.... a**e
Anyone know how to do this?

I put

between img tags, i.e. open-square-bracket img close-square-bracket in front, then the same with a back-slash after.
hope this helps

Nice shot - that really helps to see the setup.

Thanks for the innovative solution for attaching the E3 tail light. Hoping someone has found an elegant and secure way attaching the E3 headlight at the top of the forks. I bought an E3 with the multi-mount thinking it would bolt in at the crown. My plan was to lock it on using a Pitlock. Sadly the diameter of the hole in the Nomad is too small and doesn't go right through the tube. I found that odd.
Very briefly considered drilling through the crown, but ended up getting the handlebar mount. It's convenient because I can easily dip the light, but too easily snaffled with just a rubber band holding it in place. The only solution seems to be getting the gold connectors and removing the light every time I leave the bike for 30 seconds or more.
-
Slim,
The gold connectors are quite easy to fit and seem to be holding up well to use.
I have the dynohub wiring connection plugs facing the same way, AC current, so either to either works.
The rear light wiring connection plugs face opposite ways, DC current, so that the correct polarity is maintained as they can only be connected one way round.
Having the dynamo and rear light connections different means that I can connect the plugs in the dark and get them right every time.
I originally had both the dynamo and rear light plugs facing opposite ways (as in the old instructions) and it was easy to cross connect wires by mistake.
Some photos below showing my set up, I have pulled the plugs slightly out in one photo.
I am using the old handlebar mount on an accessory bar which works well for me.

Julk,
Thanks for your response and the excellent pictures.
I've just purchased a longer hex bolt that will enable me to attach the E3 via the multi-mount to the crown of the forks. That way I can easily dip the light when required. It's not a perfect solution because the bolt has a much smaller diameter than the hole in the multi-mount, but with the aid of washers it should hold. Perfection would be a bigger hole that goes right through the crown enabling the use of a Pitlock. I may revisit that option in due course.
