Hope this turns out as I'm useless with technology.
After months of agonising over the spec I finally received my new RST this week. Due to work commitments and the process of swapping bits and bobs from my other bike today was my first chance to give it a spin. My first impressions are what an incredibly well thought out bike, everything just feels right from the frame geometry right down to the wheels. I also can't believe how quiet the Rohloff hub is and to give SJS Cycles their credit what a well built machine it is. The Rohloff system just feels so natural and I found that it let you take in the scenery more as your'e not worrying what gear to select all the time. Roll on tomorrow, can't wait to put a few more miles on my new baby.
Happy Days.(http://[img][img][img])[/img][/img][/img]

Not of your technological ability

Still can't manage to upload photos of my bike, oh well never mind.
The main difference I've found is this is the first bike I've ever had that fits me properly. Being vertically challenged (5ft 5in) I was constantly trying different stem lengths but would never feel totally comfortable, the RST is different. It is also the first bike that I've had where toe overlap isn't an issue, credit to the designers for coming up with a superbly functional, sprightly and comfortable machine. Weight wise it is a couple of pounds heavier than my Super Galaxy at 34 pounds and as far as I can tell it feels about as fast, I'll be able to compare times when I commute to work next week.
I was a bit apprehensive waiting for the bike to arrive wondering if I'd chosen the right gearing (40x17) and handlebars but my fears were unfounded as both are perfect and the Ergon GP-1 grips are fantastic.
I'm trying to think of some negatives but I honestly can't think of any, possibly slight noise in gears 1-7 but it doesn't bother me at all.
I can't see myself ever going back to a derailleur equipped bike again. You can see why Thorn offer a 100 day money back guarantee.

Neil, you need an external photo account to link to photos. Do you have one, such as flickr, etc?
If you do, then you simply upload the photos to that account, and when you view them, here should be a button next to the photo called 'share' or similar. Clicking that should give you the location of the image, which will start with 'http://', and it will end with the photo name, something like 'xxxx.jpg'. You them simply copy the image address, and go back to your forum post, click on the 'Insert Image' button, and when it puts the 'IMG and /IMG tags on the post, you insert the photo address between them.
So it should look summat like this inside the two IMG tags:
"http://photo hosting site name/example.jpg" but without the double quotes.
I notice from your original post, being rather geeky for a minute, that you appear to be a mac user judging by the fact that your image is located in iphoto. There is a facility in iphoto to post images direct to your flickr account if you have one.
You can't simply upload images to the forum.
I say all of this because, apart from being a geek, I want to see your RST as it's the same colour as mine!!!
hope this helps.

Thanks Paulson, I will have a go this evening.
-
Is there a reason for all this difficulty and why the forum allows such low jpegs?
-
Here we go again (fingers crossed)
If this fails I have opened a Flickr account and my name on it is neiloj.

While we are waiting here's my black RST with edelux, of particular interest is that the light isn't shining which either means its been sitting still for half an hour or it's been in the midday sun for half an hour, I suspect the former ( I ride with it in senso mode which I think is German for always on) http://www.flickr.com/photos/blacksail/5360571202/in/photostream/
-
This is scary Blacksail not only do I have the same bike as you but I've also got the same phone as well.
-
and the same problems uploading pictures - I'm sure I've attached pictures on this forum before, now I just get an error saying the uploader is full :(
-
very nice. I like the black for a raven.

I ride with my edolux in senso mode but it is certainly not on all the time. I get a kick out of riding down a long hill in and out of shady spots. I can feel the vibration kicking in when I get into the shade and the generator switches on, then the ride smooths out again when I get back into the sunshine.

Classic!

Beautiful! Enjoy!
We've got a foot and a half of snow on the ground, highs around 20F and lows getting below 0F, then some freezing rain forecast for Tuesday. I'm stuck on the stationary bike in the basement. Plus looking at maps and dreaming of rides for when spring starts peeking through! My new Thorn arrived late November. Tough season to really get out a lot!

That is going to carry you for many an enjoyable mile, Neil! Lovely machine.
-
I love the colour. I even had to change the seat post for a black easton! Pretty much the only chrome on my bike is the crankset. Black bikes definitely don't stand out in the bike shed which means you have to rmember where you left it but it might not come to the attention of a thief. Here's a recent pic of my RT hiding behind a sign.

The rack and rackbag have since gone on my tandem as they just felt too heavy on the RST.
-
Neil,
The bike looks fantastic you must be chuffed to bits with it. like the colour and look hope you enjoy it.
Paulson looks great too, a fine pair of machines absolute classic.
-
Thanks to everyone for the positive comments towards my new bike and all the other RST's on show look great too.
I'm looking forward to my 4-45am commute on wednesday to find out how good the Schmidt Edelux really is and comparing times with my derailleur equipped bike.
-
Is that a pump on the seat-tube ? What kind is it ? I've resorted to carrying a mini-pump in the rack bag, my pref is always a frame-fitting Zefal HPX, but thats not an option on my (black) RST.
-
Yes it is a Blackburn mini pump which attaches to the bottle cage bosses quite neatly although like you I would have preferred a frame fitting pump. I don't really understand why they have done away with the pump pegs on the RST, perhaps they feel it makes it look more sporty without?
