Post by: David S on July 18, 2004, 01:26:20 AM
Does anybody know of a carbon fork that is vee brake compatible?
Using 700 wheels. I want to upgrade from my harsh alloys if pos.
Thanks for any info.                     David S

Looks like I can’t use vee’s, so what do think is a “better
carbon fork” with a rake, for comfort. And I will use a Veloce
calliper as I have a Veloce group, using my 700 wheels??

Hi

I think carbon forks with v boss mounts do exist. Try Planetx or www.on-one.co.uk. Their Il Pompino bike has a carbon fork option but I understand its 1 1/8 headset size only.

Do'nt forget fork length. V-brake forks are generally 2-5cms longer than caliper brake forks. Fitting a short fork steepens seat and head angles upsetting handling and lowering bottom bracket height. Why not go for a quality steel fork, I've Time and Look forks on bikes but they're no more comfortable than the Reynolds  531, 653 and Columbus Nivachrom forks on other bikes when the same wheels and tyres are fitted. The 531 fork is probably the most comfortable. The one inch carbon pivot on the Look fork is a bit too bendy under heavy braking - I'm 65kgs.

Thanks all,
I have got a set with a 45 mm rake in them, I only had to change the rim section to fit the brake blocks, as the top of the fork was smaller, from 25 mm wide to 20 mm wide and fit the same 28 mm tyre David s
