Title: How many parts in a Rohloff hub?
Post by: SpokeCount on October 30, 2010, 10:48:06 PM
First post here.  Greetings all!

Suppose you have a Rohloff with the EX box shifter.  How many individual pieces make up a Rohloff hub, including the shifter, cables, ferrules, etc?

You can count pre-manufactured parts (cables, housing, cartridge bearings) as 1 piece, or as many pieces.  That is up to you.

For curiosity/nerdiosity's sake...

Thanks!

Purely a guess, how about 666 ;)

Roughly 146 individual (counting multiple instances of the same part) components based on the exploded diagram.

All those parts broken down to ball bearing/race/seal level?? No thanks!

146 is a good number to start with.  I might have a hard time determining how many balls are inside the bearings.

I am trying to determine how many individual pieces must be manufactured and assembled to make my bicycle. It is a lot!  Especially when you take 36 spokes, 36 nipples, 36 eyelets, cable strands, bearings, and then a Rohloff, etc.
