Title: handlebar height
Post by: tstevens on July 17, 2010, 09:57:27 PM
I have a Thorn Nomad [2001].
I need to raise handlebar height by 1.5inches.
I can't add any more spacers.
I purchased the following stem: 'Thorn Front Loading Alloy Ahead Stem 1 1/8 Inch or 28.6 mm / 110 mm + 40 Deg'...but this hasn't added the needed height.

I thought another stem or an adjustable stem may add this height....but I'm not sure how to solve this problem.

Terry.

What sort of handlebars are you using?
Can you get similar handlebars with a bigger rise?

Adjustable stems may give a bigger angle of rise, but this will not add much to the overall height gain unless you buy one with a greater length than 110mm.

Last resort - a new fork from Thorn with the original very long steerer tube intact.

Look for one of these. I have used them and they are very good.

This is a handy site for working out what you will end up with by changing your stem :

That is a handy site.
I had been drawing the stem variations in Adobe Illustrator to measure the differences.

Much easier with the link given.
Many thanks.

Yes, meant to add my thanks too. I have the same dilema as the OP and this link has helped evaluate options. Thank you.
