Title: SKS Mudguards for RST
Post by: Fred A-M on June 18, 2010, 01:11:47 PM
Hi

I need to replace my SKS mudguards on my RST - running 26" x 1.5" Schwable Marathons, I'm guessing I need 26" MTB?   If so what width should I get?

Thanks

Fred

I use SKS P45 700c guards on my Sherpa fitted with the same tyres as your bike. They work very well.

Thanks John for your response - am fairly green when it comes to tech specs and wasn't expecting a 700c recommendation so evidently I need to look into this a little further!

Any RST owners with an opinion?

Yep, 700c P45's on my RST too - just remember to trim a couple of inches off the rear guard so that the light / reflector points in the right direction.

I left the extra length on and it works fine.
If you don't like it you can cut it off later.

What was the reason for purchasing the 700c size rather than a 26" version? Width?

Length !  - greater wrap around  - more spray protection, particularly on the front

Hello
When I first purchased a Thorn frame I was told by Thorn to use 700c mudguards! As they work well I have continued to do so. Somewhere deep in the brochures you may find something as such.
