Title: XTC or Sherpa?
Post by: leonardo on October 01, 2008, 03:51:15 PM
Hello, I need some help to understand the main differences between the XTC and the Sherpa. I live in Italy (where there is a lot of tradition in sport cycling but not at all in touring, so I have to buy abroad) and I cannot try or even see them. I'm looking for a good first experience "slow" tourer. I use to commute by bicycle (mainly a Brompton folding or a high-end electric "pedelec") but I never tried travelling. My goal is a few days journey with my wife and my 8 years old child, so something slow, quiet and comfortable: definitely nor "fast" (XTC) neither "expedition touring" (Sherpa)... nevertheless I like them very much!

Many thanks for your answers jags and bobs. I see that the Sherpa is better considered (even though I don't understand yet the differences...).

Hello,
The Sherpa is a Taiwan built frame. The XTC is English built and more expensive due to high English wages! Both frames are very very good. I have a Sherpa simply because the XTC is more sportier (will carry less of a load)and I wanted a more heavy duty bike. Have no doubt both are great to ride.
John.
