Thorn at Newgrange in the Boyne Valley, 10 minutes from my door. One of my regular routes.

Another view of Newgrange along the way.

On of the few drags along this great route.

This is a great spin lads... especially when it's sunny! Hope you enjoyed the pics.

Thats a nice looking bike in some lovely surroundings.  I like the improvised bike stand as well!

Have you done much touring on it, Jags?

I'm also intrigued to know what the white circular structure is....

jags,

Found your Sherpa pics at last; what a beauty! A really nice build, and one of the few I've seen with STI levers. I see yours has the gloss finish and the lovely bands on each side of the logos. Is it the gun-metal finish? Love the homemade Click-Stand from available materials. Did you ever get a kickstand of some sort?

In that last shot, I can see the hills you've got to climb. My goodness, man, that thing is a wall. I can also see why you want some lighter wheels to get up them a bit faster.

I especially enjoyed the Boyne Valley pics...that area has some real significance in my family history. Simply beautiful countryside to ride in, with that magical picture-book quality, nicely captured.

Saw your touring pics offsite, but they were a bit small. I'd sure like to see some updates, especially loaded with bags as you prepare for this next tour.

What a fine machine!

Best,

Dan.

Thanks for that Dan, ah it's a lovely route to newgrange and around the boyne valley right on my doorstep.
the roads are not as steep as they look but they are as we say over here very heavy the  tarmac is terrible but the sherpa takes it all in its stride i'm glad to report.
i can't post any photos as yet because the leads for the camera  have disappeared.
i was going to invest in a click stand but it was costing me to much money to get it to ireland ,ah i suppose i'll have to settle for the nearest gate or wall to lean my little beauty against ;D ;D
thanks again dan glad you enjoyed the photos.

jags,

Have you tried reading the card directly off the reader? No leads required that way. Shame about the Click-Stand postage costs. At first, I thought it might cost less for someone to forward it to you, but Tom Nostrant doesn't gouge on shipping; sending things overseas from here has just come to cost a lot. I finally had to stop sending Christmas and birthday gifts to friends overseas when I found the shipping was 3x the value of the prezzie.

Best,

Dan.

Thanks for posting these.  I think your post and others such as it qualify as bike porn of a more healthy rounded out style than just bike equipment shots! So .... keep the porn coming please! It is highly motivating. :P

(Dan posting on behalf of jags...)

Jags' beautifully setup and maintained Sherpa is looking a bit more beautiful thanks to some extra care in setting the rear fender clearance. It is a real model for doing these things right (no easy task) and looks terrific!

Best,

Dan.

cheers dan ,yeah i should have done this set up right in the first place but these sks fenders are a bit of a pain to get just right, i spent about an hour trying to get it to sit right maybe now i'll fit the front one a bit better as well but no hurry as i'm off out for a spin around the boyne valley  ;)

This post is interesting!

I am in the same position with my Thorn and gear although I loved my tour on a cannondale mtb and went crazy to buy a full on Thorn tourer the bike has ended up killing my enjoyment of cycling as its just not a  fun bike to own if all you have money for is one bike...the practicality of keeping one such specialized machine does not work for me ....how I miss my cannondale mtb such a fun do it all bike. I would swap my Sherpa for a "Cannondale F series with Fatty" if any one has a good one.

Wicki i couldn't fault the thorn sherpa in any way its a completely different bike than my Raleigh 753 road bike,i find it a very comfy bike to ride i have a great gear range on it so hills ain't that much ofa problem i only went off road once I'm not a mountain biker far from it ,but it handled the rough stuff no bother.
no my problem is the whole touring  thing, i really dont think i was cut out  for it. i would be totally useless at touring on my own, i like company but there lies the problem  finding company that on the same wavelength as you is nigh on impossible me thinks ::)
yeah pity about your cannondale been there  wore the Tshirt and all that many a time.
Never learn. ;D ;D

Boy, that's a really spiffy bike, Jags--nice work indeed!  Esp like the back-and-silver colour scheme, which I will use on my New Raven (to be done by the end of Feb next year.)  Looking at those fotos (thanks, Dan), y'know, I think you could split your sale into two large lumps, camping gear and the bike, and maybe pick up a few more ££.

Looking at the map, I'm thinking that I really should make a cycle safari through The Holy Ground.  My mum's family came from Co. Wicklow, other family members came from Dingle & Tralee, and ages back I worked with a guy from Castlederg in Tyrone, S of Derry.  Is there any time of year when, er, it rains less?

on my irish tour the clown i was with would'nt go to dingle  because he said he didnt want to ride extra miles as its a one way road to it, turn around and come back the same way one of the highlights of my trip i didn't get to see.great country to cycle if the weather is good.
i dont really want to split things up if i havent the lot sold by next week i'mm
 keeping it.
