Hi Pocket, and welcome to the Thorn Cycles Forum!
All congratulations on your new Raven...terrific bikes; I feel sure yours will serve you well for a very long time to come.
As for advice, I'd suggest a quick read through the boards here, especially the one devoted to Rohloff hub care and use: http://thorncyclesforum.co.uk/index.php?board=25.0
Secondarily, the Thorn General board will expose you to all the basics: http://thorncyclesforum.co.uk/index.php?board=1.0
Don't forget the Forum's search function; it is most likely someone will have had your question before and it is always helpful to read through the answers.
Best,
Dan.

Welcome, pr, and your Raven as well! They're terrific bikes, and I'm sure you'll find this to be a welcoming and well-informed forum. As Dan says, there's a lot of info in the archives, often with photos, videos, and the like, along with good humour to keep things light & well-adjusted.
Cheers, John

thank you everyone , i love the raven it rides like a rolls royce , it came to me with a heart wrenching history & i promised the wife of the previous owner i would ride the bike as her hubby would have wanted .

Welcome to the forum and the new acquisition despite the sad circumstances, I've just sold a bike for the widow of a friend and I know how important it was for her for it to go to someone who would appreciate it.
Raven's love to be ridden, tip top condition to me means always ready to ride and one of the joys of the Rohloff is that it doesn't take much to keep them that way -
Don't obsess about chain tension like most new owners (Including me) tight enough not to fall off is tight enough anywhere between that and straining the bearings is fine.
Steel is real - so it rusts! When you get a knock, clean it and paint it, doesn't have to match, just needs to keep the dreaded R away.
Buy some bulk oil and flush if you didn't get them with the bike, it makes oil changes cheap enough to do them at a convenient time rather than to a specified schedule.
If you have an original silver hub, it's polished rather than anodised (Not sure when it changed) they polish up like new with a bit of Silvo.
Other than that, it's brakes, chains and tyres like any other bike, except the chains last a lot longer.
Enjoy it and let's see some photos!!

i have just posted the very 1st picture of it on here in the gallerys section , i cant belive how it rides so so smooth, it came fitted with drops & a spare pair of butterfly bars as i suffer back pain i fitted the butterfly bars and at that moment of the 1st ride i understood why these are called "adventure trecking bikes" absolutley amazing :)

just ride it and enjoy if you put the miles in your sure to meet loads of big mile cyclists.
the main thing on any bike even Rohloff (god forgive me) is to keep the chain perfectly clean and lubed. ;)

You did nothing wrong! :) I'd be delighted to meet up with you, but I live 7,932km/4,929mi from Warwickshire, so it won't be anytime soon I'm afraid.
While we have a large membership here, I would imagine it is but a fraction of all Thorns sold, so it might be a bit of luck to find a current Forum member who is also local to you. Now all owners register for the Forum.
You might try a local cycling club to see if you get a response.
Best of luck and all good wishes,
Dan.

Or, if you want to spend more time cycling and less time cleaning, fit a Chainglider.... (waits for an indignant reply from Jags)
-
never thought of that one Martin ;D ;D
-
Welcome welcome.
Raven rider myself and Chainglider fan.
Scotland based so unlikely to meet up.
Unless you go out for a ride one day, and keep riding.....
Head north. Can't miss us.
Out of interest, what's the number on your hub?
It could help with approximate age of bike.
Not fool proof but a guide.

.........or ride a belt bike..........
Can't see the problem that some folk have with the idea of them.
