Clearly overpaid he was selling it at £950 8 months ago on gumtree. Only a moron would pay that much. Specially as I have to go to Leicester to fetch it!

I bid 1052.I was thinking of tad higher at 1150 but then it went too high.if I was paying 1400 think I would have opted for a new one!!

I was tempted but need one now and that's what I wanted. Have septic arthritis and a springer spaniel that needs 2.5 hours exercise a day (minimum) Need to alternate with off road cycle and next day walk. Otherwise to painful to walk next day. Have a Rohloff bike but not prepared to change tyres back and forth. Also will be putting on spikes soon. If Temperature forecast drops to 3 degrees then there will be ice on roads around here (rural). Hoping for new knee soon but not even on waiting list yet.

Bid below mine was 1,401.99 and below that was £1,150.00. I hate whoever it was who bid 1401.99

Well understand the arthritis being a fellow sufferer.!!just back from cortisone injection so should feel marvellous tomoz!!! That will be one fit Springer!!! I will keep on searching as think the rholoff is the way to go.I bumped into a guy with a surly in Bold st lpool who says its brill but you can hear a noise in low gears but I've not experienced using a rholoff yet but will do soon hopefully, hope that knee improves!!

Yeah didn't look like it was worth 1400 in my opinion either.

I make myself feel better by remembering that my Santos Travelmaster cost me £1100 on eBay delivered. The paperwork shows the bloke paid £3300 for it.

Left house 9.55am collected bike at Leicester train station 3.35. Should be home for 9.30ish. Only cycling last 24 miles. Bloke selling to pay for private operation. He looked like he needed one.... desperately.

Well done !!!your mission accomplished albeit a long haul but as you say that 1401 bid hit hard, bit of a sudden hike.I will have to be careful with my own bidding but I,m sure one will be out there :)

Home, fetched dog, lit fire, showered and a chilli con carne in the microwave. I am not sure if I will ever recover from that 24 mile cycle ride.... on a saddle made by the London brick company! Luckily I have a well broken in Brooks B17. Just need to find it.

I have noticed that the Rohloff is noisier on this bike than on my Santos Travelmaster.
The Santos had done 20,000 kilometers before I bought it.

Did I really pay to much for the Thorn I just bought?

Boy, that is a hard question! If you paid more than you might have yet are happy, I'm not sure you paid too much at all!
I am "careful" with money and place great store on value, but sometimes when I don't get the lowest possible price but the item is really well made and lasts a long time...it is still well worth it.

Sometime in the future I was going to change the rims on the Thorn to the rigida ones. The ones where they fire carbide at seven times the speed of sound into the rims. The rims on my Santos have them and they show no sign of wear, even though the bike had done 20,000 km before I bought it. I say was, because when I looked at them today I discovered that was exactly the rims that are on the bike. You would think he would have mentioned it in the listing?!!

All the best,

Well changed saddle ridden it a total of 70 miles. Excellent really comfortable and I am not just talking about the saddle. Now I am not sure which to use as my off road bike. The Santos has big apples on so should be far more comfortable than the Thorn but isn't?.
