Title: Bar bag on Raven Tour?
Post by: daviddd55 on May 25, 2007, 09:03:08 PM
There doesn't seem to be any room for my trusty 'slimline' Altura bar bag - the cables coming out of the brake levers are far too close. Anyone overcome this problem?
Oops - just noticed another similar thread....

I had the same problem until I fitted a Klick Fix Handlebar Extension Bracket. Doesn't look that great without the bag, but it does the job:

Interesting - never knew the bracket existed - however I still can't see a bar bag fitting what with my beloved carbon bar ends (inboard), as well as the Lumotec front light mounted on the crown. I'll give it some thought though, cheers.

You should have no problem - I was actually thinking about getting some of those bar ends, but I'm waiting to see if I actually need them!

Tomorrow I'm going to take the RT for it's maiden tour - 10 days in Scotland for some mixed touring, it should be good. The only thing I regret is that my bar bag is too small for my SLR, so will have to take the compact camera instead... oh well!

Anyway, I only came on here to print out some technical data (like how to adjust the Eccentric BB!). If you want me to take a pic of it from a different angle, just let me know and post one as soon as I get back.

All the best,

Dom/

I can heartily recommend the carbon bar ends mounted inboard. I've now replaced the Al Comfort bars with Carbon Comforts - lovely feel with them, and I'm delighted with the position after much deliberation about whether I could stomach 'straights' after a lifetime of 'drops'. The lowish but very comfortable position with hands resting on the IBE's is much better than I thought it would be.
It was a good decision after all.

Does anyone know if the Klick Fix extension bar will fit Ortlieb bar bags? I can't see the fitting from the photos, nor can I see it if I look at the extension piece on WIggle.
thanks,
steve

I sometimes use my Ortlieb bar bag with the Klick-fix bracket - it clips in securely.

If you're asking whether or not the Klick-fix extension piece will work with an Ortlieb bracket, then I very much doubt it... do what Andrew says.

Ortlieb and Klick-fix use different means to attach the extension to the bars.

Was a bit slow to catch Andrew's post (I thought I was subscribed to this thread but I obviously wasn't) but as soon as I saw it, I ordered the Ortlieb bar bag extension. THat solves it. Shortening Rohloff cables strikes me as sheer torture so I won't do that. There should be less stress on the cable housing now, though frankly I don't like the cable guides on the side of the head tube, I think that's part of the problem.

In my next incarnation I shall go for the Klickfix wire basket - doesn't look cool on a Thorn but works great, I would think...[:o)]
