Title: Lufthansa
Post by: Matt2matt2002 on November 18, 2016, 08:58:30 AM
Planning my next trip.
April 2017. Fly Aberdeen Uk to Marrakech via Frankfurt.
Researching Lufthansa and hearing tales of bikes going ' nude'.

Has anyone flown with unwrapped bikes and in particular, using Lufthansa?

Earlier this year I used Turkish Airlines and the box was wrecked resulting in bent forks.
I sometimes think getting my bike there and back is the most stressful part of the whole tour.

matt when your packing your bike why not fit eight inch ply to the inside of the box  not much of a weight limit but will make for a stronger box.
i never heard of Lufthansa  where the hell is it,and why  did you pick it.
god you have a soft woman, did she know you had gipsy blood in you when she took you off the shelf ;)

anto.

If I fly from Aberdeen I can cycle to the airport from home.
Previous tours have involved using a van to drive 300 miles round trip to Edinburgh airport.

I picked Morocco partly because the Lufthansa airline can take me there via Frankfurt from Aberdeen.

If I ever get to do a really long  tour I'll just start from my front door!

Several folk on other forums have spoken about Lufthansa taking bikes unwrapped and sometimes including it in the allowed weight.

I guess my choice for the next tour factors in ease of getting there.
I have been through Istanbul airport x2 with a total stop over time in excess of 2 days.
I have my name on a seat for sleeping there!

Matt, who still can't quite accept flying nude.
