If you're interested here's a report of a ride (on my Thorn Raven) from Málaga to Santander (with a couple of detours)

I want to applaud you for your marvelous writing style.  Your's is one of the few blogs where the words, more so  than even the best photographs, are evocative, and reason to visit.

Very enjoyable write-up, thanks; read it before on my phone, which did not do the photos or the ride description justice.  Well done!

It must have been galling paying for two rooms in two different hotels, but that sort of thing happens!!  A very good average speed as well.

Best wishes

lewis

Thank you for the write up - you mentioned you might have preferred other tyres as yours were mainly road tyres - would you change the set up next time?

Great trip. Many thanks.
You mentioned using Ridewithgps.
What unit did you use? Garmin?

Your heat sounds even higher than my Sri Lankan trip in June.

Thanks to all for the positive comments.

In answer to the last couple of questions:

I was riding on 1.6 Marathon Supremes. These were fantastic, I couldn't help feeling though that I was using them outside of their "design window". They are road tyres and I ended up doing a lot of gravel track and (very rocky) off road sections a fair way away from any assistance. What I tried to describe were my concerns as I rode along. In summary I wouldn't change the tyres but I might well be more careful in my route planning!

I used a Gramin 800 loaded with the excellent maps from Velomap and the routes planned via RidewithGPS
