It started as an expedition bike but has evolved into a fast tourer.
Just given it a service... New: tyres, front wheel with Hope hub, cables throughout, cages, grips, pump.
-
Neil,
It’s still looking good.
Julian.

Tasty looking bike that oozes style.
Nice one Neil ;)

love the billiard paint job
noticed you got an ergon bar end plug missing, pm your addy if you need a pair as i never used mine, yours for the cost of post
-
Actually haven't installed the end plugs yet ... trying to find my rubber camping mallet! :)
I'm doing a sportive on Sunday - my first in 5 years since a crash. Hence I've been turning the bike into a speed machine. One day I'll get back into touring (and be able to put the panniers back on) ... but until then ..... zoooooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmm :)
-
That..is lovely!
If I ever find another eXp, I'll have this pinned on a wall as inspiration!

;D they are a tight fit
bit cheeky i know but any time you have a ruler to hand could you measure the billiard cue length,
tip to tip square on (length of tube used in the transition)
I'd like to try and replicate it on the Thorn Thingy frame i have
-
Bill,
I have a similar paint job and the billard cue transition is 5 1/2 inches long on both tubes.
Julian.

hi Julian
many thanks, hopefully i'll be able to use some Artool Ultra Mask to make a stencil
i've seen tubing on ebay in 28.6, 31.8 & 34.9 i'll probably buy a 500/600mm length of each to practice on
sorry Neil to have taken it off topic, it's just the billiard paint job set me off ::)
btw the Durano's 1.1 or 1.35 been looking at them for the Thorn thingy in 1.1,
i'm running 1.25 folding ribmo's with geax ultralight tubes on the xtc and am impressed,at one stage fitted with 28 spoke wheels, really a lot comfier than expected and no slug ;)

Owning that bike of yours is tantamount to owning a Cortina Mk 2 in Aubergine, not Saluki Bronze or Silver Fox, but Aubergine!
SJS cycles sold an Exp a couple of months ago. It was in great condition. The colours were cream and green - still billiard cue style - but it didn't look a patch on yours.
Those colours and detail are spot on. I remember when i bought my first Raven seeing that set up. I wished I had taken a photo of it so I could have replicated it on my RST.
However, I relied on memory - fatal - and got it the wrong way round lol.
But the colour combo was pretty much the same.
A stunning bike Neil. Do NOT ever part with it - unless you give it to me. 8)

Haha,
Just thought - when I committed that image to memory, it must have been the negative! :)
She who must be obeyed has seen your bike and passed a favourable comment. I showed her my reversal piccy and she said that was my signature - to get it the wrong way round.
She is now banned from the study.

i know it wasn't meant as a put down, but i wish i wrote that ;D , it'd make an awesome signature
can you use a quote like that as a sig?
-
Bill,
Be my guest and please feel free to use that as a signature - and anything else that you may find of value from my rambling scribbles.
Looks like it's going to be a lovely day here in York - worthy of a spin out.
Have a good weekend, y'all

Bill,
Actually I intended to write Cortina MK2 1600E. I must learn to proof read what I write and not be in a burning hurry to post.

Mmm S&S couplings. Only slightly seething with jealousy. That is the only thing missing from my eXp
-
Thanks for the all the nice comments (late reply .... thought I had subscribed to this thread but obviously didn't!). I regularly think of selling the bike as finances very tight (young kids) and touring won't happen for a few years at least (young kids!). BUT I love the bike and it goes like the clappers and is very comfortable. It will be a shame to put big tyres, racks and mudguards on it ... I'm just about to remove the titanium Brooks to fit a racing saddle...

They're the one thing I don't like! Wish I hadn't got them ... never used them, one more thing to maintain (or forget to maintain then panic every year!).
-
Cortina 1600E. :) no couplings though ;)
