Hi All
I was given a Thorn Nomad last year but unfortunately its far too big for me! I know nothing about the bike or its worth. If anyone could give me a bit of information It would be much appreciated. Ill upload a pic with this post.
Thanks
Tom

How interesting and welcome to the forum. If you turn the bike upside down you should see some numbers and letters stamped into the bottom bracket; the bit between the pedals. Tell us what they are and much may be revealed!

from what I can make out its LA 261299
thanks

Informed guess incoming. Circa 2003. Frame from LA cycles like my Nomad. Probably a 561 size . If its sound there might be interest here . I'll post more later from the laptop.

ok that would be great! if you would like any more pictures let me know. I had the bike on the road last summer and it was very smooth. no clunks or strange noises. I was thinking about having it powder coated and tidied up but original paint is still in fairly good condition.

It should conform to one of these on the size chart. Time for the tape measure perhaps! Have a look the other side of the cable run, near the chain rings perhaps ; there might be a two digit number there, the first of which may be a 6 as per the attachment.

What a lovely gift to receive, Tom!
How unfortunate it is the wrong size, but I would expect interest here to be keen if you ever wish to sell it with a post on our Bikes For Sale board, here: http://thorncyclesforum.co.uk/index.php?board=16.0
With the proceeds, you may well wish to consider a Thorn in the proper size. Their whole range of bikes is remarkable and you're in for a treat if you get one. Meanwhile, welcome the Forum!
Best,
Dan.

From the photo I think your frame is 725 tubing. I'm not sure when Thorn started using it, but I'm sure someone does. Here's a chart detailing Reynolds' tubing spec'.

Alternatively you could buy a frame in the correct size, swap all the bits over and sell the original frame. It might be worth considering a Sherpa frame, too.

^^^ Good idea, that! ;)
All the best,
Dan.

But, keep in mind that your older Nomad is a derailleur system, the newer Nomads use an internally geared hub instead. So, if you want to swap out frames for a newer one, make sure you look for a compatible one.
