T'was me!

I keep hearing negative reports of Alfine 11 hubs though.  The last mentioned the oil often not staying inside of the hub.  Yet the Alfine 8 gets good reports.  There's nothing quite like a Rohloff though!

No problems yet with the two Nexus 8 Premium hubs in the household (very similar to Alfine 8 internally).

I decided against Alfine 11 mainly on the basis of the reported reliability problems when the hub was introduced.

The Shimano 8-speeds have been around much longer, and I reckon most of the initial faults have now been rectified. Also a lot cheaper to replace if they do fail.
