Title: Pumping up the mat
Post by: onrbikes on February 18, 2015, 05:58:41 AM
I had a dry sac with a few small pin holes and decided to make my own Schnozzle pump, as sold by Exped.

Having just got a replacement Exped Syn mat, didn’t want my new one to get any moisture inside. My other one had popped some seams and acquired new bulges. Very uncomfortable. I never liked the moisture it accumulated, and it was a chore to blow up, especially on last years Northern India high altitude ride.

I had plenty of spare garden fittings and an hour later had successfully made my own.
Easy to use and even though it doesn’t have a plug, can always use it at the end of the day to put bread and other loose groceries.

Nice job, Fred!

Thanks for sharing it with us; bound to come in handy for others.

Best,

Dan.

It looks great! Please could you post some instructions?

Just basic garden fittings I had laying around.
I first got a male black poly pipe fitting that fit into the mattress. Then the male and female piece that connected the garden hose to the outdoor tap.
Punch a round hole into the dry sac and a bit of silicone.

Will take some close-up photo when I get home again, in late march.

Thanks - I'll look forward to seeing it in more detail.
