Would anyone make a guess at the relative weight of a Raven & Nomad. I mean the percentage difference. I know its all down to the spec so I guess a 'barebones' bike ex Thorn shop.

I won't bother weighing my bike as it's not stock but if you are concerned about the weight of the bikes are you sure the nomad or raven is the correct bike for the job?

My basic build RST is about 14kg, not sure that answers your question but it is a good start. Light wheels and tyres will make any bike feel lighter.
What is you planned use for the bike, I like my RST as it is fast enough for me, it fits me and it feels very comfortable.

my 565L Nomad is about 18 kg, but that includes Thorn racks front and rear, Andra rims, dynamo front hub. Did I get that kitchen sink installed, too? Oh, yeah, S&S couplers. Flyer saddle. All the heaviest options, let's put it that way.

20kg on the nose for my 2012 size 590M drop-handlebar Nomad Mk2, setup for desert expedition use.

My old raven tour weighed around 15.5kg in commuter mode. The RST is lighter but I've not had chance to weigh it accurately.

One arm, how strong do you need a bicycle to be?
Thorns are all designed with efficient use of materials and no heavier than they need to be in order to safely and reliably carry their maximum rated loads with a bit of comfort, joy and durability thrown in. (I'd guess the strength/weight relationship of various Thorn frames is fairly linear).
I'd ignore the frame weight and choose purely in terms of planned use. You will then get a bike as heavy as it needs to be and no more.
You'll ride the bike not the numbers

Not weighed my Raven Tour but good comments made here.
I decided on the Raven since I wanted it for a long tour and had read some journals by folk who had used them.
For what I wanted, the Nomad was over kill.
Not taking anything away from Nomads. Fine bikes I'm sure.
SD has been said, first decided what you want your bike to do.

Agree with all this. Differences in frame weights are relatively minor, it is how the frame is dressed for its task that creates the differences. Weight is also only one factor as to how a bike rides.

Still, and with respect to the OP, his question was straightforward and legitimate, and he appears to have received an answer that satisfied him, (and others, including me).

My question was quite simply curiosity and wasn't an either / or choice as some have misinterpreted it.

The Nomad brochure says a frame is "around 3kg" and that an X series Nomad is about 500g lighter. The current Raven has similar fittings, same wall thickness tubes in slightly smaller diameters and similar heavy gauge stay diameters to an X. So I'd guesstimate the difference in frames at about 700g or 22ish % less.
Parts wise the Nomad would be 100gheavier because of the EX box, and all other components "could" be the same...
So 800g in about 17,000 is rufflee 5% (ceteris paribus ;))
Best thing said to or that has occurred to me many a time is "haven't you looked at it this way?" Particularly on this forum. Sorry if that's "wrong" in some way.
