I started out by buying the Ex Dudley Council breakdown truck, a modified WW2 AEC Matador.
I used to take that to steam rallies all over central England until I upgraded to an AEC Militant, a 6x6 purpose built military recovery truck.
I then bought the 10 ton recovery trailer and the Volvo BV202 tracked over snow vehicle to go on it.

After many years of going to 20 or so steam rallies or military vehicle shows a year, I haven't been to any for over a year.

We went to a good one a couple of years ago at Tably house in Cheshire where they also had a reenactment day using some of the old guns etc. We got to see allot of different vehicles there, very interesting.
I have a good friend Dave bloor who does steam and traction shows at different places.
