Life After Having A Rohloff is to Get A Rohloff Again!
« on: June 10, 2012, 07:08:20 am »
Well I got my 1st Rohloff Speedhub back in 2005/6 and run it up until one year again! I Sold it off to lighting up my Bike for my trip across Africa this year with "Tour d"Afrique" well it was a good idea before getting to Africa but having to clean all the pulley's and adjust the gear cable's was a pain, So having NOT finished TDA this year? (I died for a short time, and have been recovering back home in NZ)
I have worked out that i'll be going back again (Solo maybe this time) and having worked out that I missed my old Rohloff Gear Hub! It was time to get a New Rohloff  ::).
Today I got My NEW hub but a funny thing is the Hub number's  :o
My OLD hub was :047043.
My NEW hub is :147013.
that is so close to being 100000 hub's good on you Bernhard Rohloff good work.
 :)
Time to lace up my new HUB and get out and start riding again with a  ;D Rohloff.

Peter, how about talking us through the wheel you're building in some detail, the choice of rim, spokes, nipples, the calculations, the construction. I ask because I'm thinking of building a wide wheel to take my electric hub and 60mm Big Apples, rather than putting the job out. A blow by blow wheel build, with photos, would be a Really Useful Thread.

PS "Life After Having A Rohloff is to Get A Rohloff Again!" -- medical science will eventually find a cure for this addiction as well. The withdrawal symptoms will however be more painful than the addiction.

Hi Andre Jute,
Well wheel building is a little art and a little time, to lean to do. the lacing of your wheel build is in Rohloff set up book.
A ROHLOFF HUB is NOT the best 1st wheel to lean to wheel build with Sorry!
Which rim am I going to use ? Well i'm going with a set of Mavic 819 UST rim's as i'm going to be using my Thorn Nomad 1st for some backroad's and offroad cycle touring in NZ and running Tubeless is going to be  best on some of the tracks that i'm planning to be touring on.
To find out more on wheel build look up about it on Google!
I have been building motorcycle wheel's for a long time (1980) and Mountain Unicycle and Bicycle wheels for almost as long.
 :)
