Title: Nomad refit
Post by: Bippers on December 19, 2016, 10:01:20 pm
Bought my Thorn on Ebay and as you can see it was Tonka Yellow but I wanted to personalise it so I gave him a complete refit and upgrade, with a Son 28 dynamo hub and Cinq 5 plug. Not sure about the Plug yet as it does not really charge my phone but I have successfully charged 2 AA batteries on a 16 mile bike ride which is very pleasing as I use these in my Garmin GPS.
Very very pleased with the powder coat job done locally,£40 and £20 for the pannier racks. They even supplied paint free. I think the paint colour code was RAL5028. I fitted Axiom Rainmaster mudguards. I like these for the reflective strips on them. New Deore XT levers and replaced carbide brake blocks and Schwabe Marathon tyres, (goes without saying really).
The bike now rides like new.
Got my eyes open for another project now...anyone got an old Thorn lying about.

My, Bip! -- what a stunning result!

Looks every inch like a new bike, and I find the color appealing. We're the transfers part of the respray?

The reflective sides on the mudguards seem a fine idea for extra visibility in low light.

Best,

Dan.

Looks fabulous, and refreshing to see a Nomad in a colour other than black or yellow. My Derailleur Nomad was gone in a heartbeat when I offered him for sale so good luck finding one waiting in the wings for a make over. :)
